This is a decent chain saw. CRAFTSMAN Electric Chainsaw, 16-Inch, 12-Amp (CMECS600)
It is not an imitation saw-like thing trying to be a chain saw. There is a review in which a guy mentioned he bumped himself with it while running and did not get cut. He makes this sound like it could be a toy or waste of money. I don't know what he or his saw did, but this chain is very sharp and runs smoothly and true on the bar. The motor is plenty powerful. The saw is nicely balanced and handles like any gas chain saw I've used, except this electric style is quiet, smooth-starting and smooth while running and you don't have to fight gas starting and idle problems. It has the classic chain saw two-hand grips: left hand on top at the balance point with a protective knuckle shield, and right hand on the rear with the switch. (That configuration was a must-have for me.)
I cut through branches ~ 4-5 inches in diameter of Lemonade Berry ( a CA tree with medium hard wood) in < 5 seconds per branch. No special effort needed. I'm totally satisfied with the performance of this saw.
Some folks have commented that the chain continues to run after you let...

I have apple trees in my backyard that needed to be cut. The Craftsman 16-inch did quite well. The value for the money is great for a homeowner like myself. I used it for one hour, then noticed that the chain was losing its sharpness. I had some other chains, tried to replace it, and now I can't find a replacement that will fit this chainsaw...
Conclusion:
Great product, has power, and it operates as good, if not better than a gas chainsaw I owned. The chain was not of good quality, and I can't find the specs for the chain so I can replace it.

For the cost, this is an excellent chainsaw!!
First know that this is the same version as Black+Decker version. Stanley Black and Decker (SBD), which also owns DeWalt and Porter Cable among other brands, bought Craftsman and just changed the color plastic in the injection molds. If you are like me, you feel better buying Craftsman.
This little chainsaw is supposed to be only for light loads, but I put it through the ringer doing stump removal and sawing through stumps. It worked well and was able to remove the smaller stumps, though it struggled on the big 3ft+ stumps. I was able to get a lot of the big roots and even remove big chunks of the stumps. This is really gas chainsaw application (or stump grinder) so I was pretty impressed it was able to cut. Went through about 6 chainsaw chains, that's what happens with stumps and rocks.
I also used it to cut small trees for firewood and it worked great.
Why not 5 stars? The chain tensioning system really needs to be better. The dial is easy to use but it gets too loose, too easily. Also too many plastic parts when I would have liked to see these be metal. I'm sure this was to save costs...

PROS: RELIABLE (Can't speak about longevity though just short term) Worked consistently for 4 hours on and off.
POWERFUL enough to cut through everything I threw at it around 6ish inches wide.
CONS: Uses a lot of chain oil.
Chain oil spits everywhere and makes cleaning the dust on the chainsaw difficult.
The assembly directions are very simple but if you're a first time user can be confusing.
First of all I've never owned or used a chainsaw so KNOW THAT.
I come from hand tools aka machete and hack saw for dealing with nature.
But coming from hand tools this thing was a blessing and plenty of power to handle the numerous giant tree limbs that fell in my yard. These were more than just limbs it was basically dismantling a small tree.
I used this on and off for 4 hours and it ran consistently and reliably. The only thing was it SPITS chain oil and seems to use a lot of chain oil. After 4 hours I was down to 1/3 of chain oil but I'm not sure if that is normal.
Side note: Untangling chainsaw chain is kind of weird and frustrating until you understand it. I was stuck at this fallopian tube mystery (see pictures) for a good bit...
