mattmatt: I ordered a used copy of this book from Amazon, and the copy I received was published in 1996 and includes only three of the model years advertised. It will work just fine for me, as I ordered it for working on a 1996 Sonoma, but if you had one of the 1997 or newer trucks, vital information might be missing.

BarkingMad: I pretty much bought this to make sure I was reading the right check engine codes, but those are mostly generic now too.I'm sure these manuals were super helpful back in the days before Google and YouTube, but now they are really only useful as reference guides for highly specific things. These are basically written for mechanics with a major assumption on the skill level of the user.
Example - Step #1 in the procedure to replace the Rear Main Oil Seal is "1. Remove the transmission". Just, remove it. No biggie. Then we can get work.

Pros:
- Useful reference guide if you don't have Google handy to look up torque specs, OBD-II codes, or wiring diagrams
- Has some good tips and advice for amateur mechanics, but don't expect this guide to give you detailed instructions
Cons:
- Grainy black and white photos aren't much help when I can see the same thing in HD color on YouTube
- Instructions are sometimes vague bordering on useless for some procedures

Still the sophistication or density of the wiring in these trucks if you will cannot be presented where you really would like to have it.
In the real world this is all you are going to get
In my fantasy world I want an electric and a vacuum drawing with all the routes on one very large page maybe 18 square feet.
I have a set of factory manuals and they utilize about 30 pages and drive me correspondingly nuts.
This set in your vehicle can save you thousands of dollars of mechanics guessing errors.
In an emergency without this manual you have little hope of a quick solution.
BUY IT READ IT UNDERSTAND IT AND NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT.

j'en avais fait un cadeau double, en le même envoi.
Alors, voici mon commentaire...
Mon neveu a bien reçu le colis en très bon état et à la date indiqué - Rapide!
Il est agréablement enchanté de son volume, autant celui-ci - Haynes que le Chilton; du même envoi postal comme cadeaux.

Pablos: ...es fehlen aber praktisch alle Detaile von die mechanische Arbeiten. Und wofür kaufen wir so ein Handbuch wann nicht für Detaile?

Die Elektrik wird nur flüchtig beschrieben und über das Unterdrucksystem gibt es eigentlich kein Info.
Die Schaltpläne sind nicht komplett dabei (es fehlt z.B. Heizung- u. Klimasteuerung) und in diese die da sind habe ich ein Paar richtige Fehler gefunden (d.h. Verbindungen die sowohl falsch als auch unmöglich sind).

Fazit: Mit keine Alternative erhältlich, ist dieses Handbuch zu empfehlen. Es ist aber mit begrenztes Vertrauen zu nehmen und muss oft von Internetsuche ergänzt werden.

Gurke: Für mich waren die Schaltpläne wichtig.
Alle drin und meiner Werkstatt hat es geholfen einen
einen Fehler im Elektrosystem zu lokalisieren.
Ich bin der Meinung für Selbstreparierer ein Muss da
auch viele Reparaturen im Bild dargestellt sind und man
somit auch ohne Englischkenntnisse Nutzen ziehen kann.
