The picture of it open is against lights and you can't see through the material at all. There is a small loop on the umbrella itself if you choose not to use the pouch.

Ryan Schwab: I bought this to be an ultra portable umbrella to keep in my disc golf bag. I use it almost every round I play, but to block the Arizona sun, not the rain. It worked very well for both purposes, and I love how small it folds down in the carrying case.

I’ve owned this umbrella for a little over a month and have used it at most 3 times (for no more than 5 minutes on each occasion). Annnddd it broke this morning. Spend $5 more dollars and get a better quality one.
