CM Mother: This was a very good book! My children and I are going through American history with Beautiful Feet History this year. We added A Lion To Guard Us as an extra read aloud. It fit in well. We read one chapter a night and my children were drawn into the story. They hated when a chapter ended and were even a little sad when the book was over.

Joyful Mud Puddles: I read this to my boys ages 8&10. They were very engaged with the story. We look forward to more from this author

Younghoon Lee: This book was very heartfelt and sad
It tells about a girl whose father has gone to Virginia, America
His kids are living in England and all of a sudden their mother dies.
The only thing that the children have from him is a doorknob in the shape of the head of a lion
So they (the children; Amanda, Jemmy, and Meg) go on a boat to Virginia.
They overcome many hardships but in the end, they find their father in a cabin in Jamestown.
The doorknob shines as brightly like never before.

Davey: A novelette of the Revolutionary War era. My daughter needed to read it for school, but the library's copy has disappeared. Picked this one up for her. She's normally an omnivorous reader (but leans toward stuff about cats), and she had no problem reading it and then giving me a verbal playback (encouraging me to read it myself :). The writing is straightforward and I may well have to read it myself.

C. Eichelberger: As a homeschool mom, it is alway as struggle to find a great book that also reinforces a history lesson. This book is both! After the death of their mother, three children struggle to get to America (Jamestown, VA) in search of their father. If your children are or will be studying this time in history this is a must read. I would recommend this book for 2nd graders through 6th graders depending on the reading level of your child. Or better yet read it together outloud. What a great historical fiction book for children.
