Steven Powell: This clock has a unique, minimalist face that I find compelling in the extreme. Battery-powered makes it very portable and easy to put wherever you need it. However, it stopped keeping accurate time after about 2 years. And the back light stopped working as well. It is not treated roughly. It just sits there in our living room. Wish Marathon had a version with no second hand, as I'm sure that eats up a lot of the battery power. Although we got this clock about 4 years ago, I've kept it around and replaced the batteries, hoping that would work. But I just looked at it now and it's 20 minutes slow. Replaced the batteries last week. Since we have clocks on our phones, wrists, computers, everywhere, I haven't felt a compelling need to replace it. I might try another one, because it was hard to find a simple clock, believe it or not.

MMM: The clock is great. My first one had a defective alarm and Amazon replaced it quickly. The second one works perfectly. The alarm time, however, is not precise. If you need and expect the clock to go off at 6:00 exactly, go with a digital. It might go off at 6:05, which is close enough for my purposes.

Bob: All things considered this is an excellent clock. Great display (especially the soft amber night time glow).
One thing would make it perfect ... the first note of the alarm kicks in quite loudly (not a heart stopper but there is no ascending volume.) I'd like a few softer notes to bring you round prior to getting the main note straight off.

Psamathos: The media could not be loaded.  This is a nice clock, and it has lots of thoughtful features. The alarm is just loud enough to be annoying but not too loud. And there's truly no ticking, it's a nice smooth motion. The alarm is very easy to set and it's obvious when it's set. Backlight is the perfect brightness as well, and can be turned off and on easily with a switch. My only issue is that the snooze is only 5 minutes long. That doesn't seem long enough, and I wish it was the usual 9 minutes. Also the dial has a lot of markings, making it hard to read sometimes when you're sleepy. Otherwise it's a nearly perfect alarm clock.

Lawyers, Guns and MoneyLawyers, Guns and Money: The media could not be loaded.  Initial impression is overwhelmingly positive. I bought this clock for an upcoming silent meditation retreat where we are expected to put our phones away for ten days and I didn't want the temptation of even looking at an old iPhone I'd considered using simply for the alarm clock. I also plan to try experimenting with removing my iPhone from the bedroom in the future and this clock may allow me to do that. First, the overall build feels solid. It's light. Rubber pads on the bottom provide good grip. It is silent. I hear no ticking from the minute hand, even when held up to my ear. The light is subtle yet plenty bright enough in a dark room. You have the option to turn the light on or off, but it will only light when a sensor senses darkness. Hitting the snooze button activates the light, but it slowly fades to off after about 5-7 seconds. The snooze is 5 minutes in length-a nice change from the iPhone 9 minute length. The alarm is loud enough for me to hear through my earplugs. Watch the 6 second video for a listen of the alarm sound. "Designed in Canada. Made in China". I gave the clock 4 stars because the included batteries are pointless....

Quotes&More: Let me be clear about the clock I am reviewing because the review thread here includes all sorts of models made by this same company. I have no idea why. I have the analogue alarm clock. The Marathon CL030053BL.

This clock is awesome. I wanted a clock on my night stand. I wanted it lighted at night but not obnoxiously so. I was preferring to get a plug in clock, but pretty much no one makes such a thing anymore (an analogue, lighted, clock for bedside). This one takes two AA batteries. If it even gets a few months from two batteries, I will be thrilled. I bet it does better than that but we'll see.

Pros:
- Analogue with a very attractive dial
- Size is perfect. 3.5 inches by 3.5 inches
- Not atomic (not synchronized with the NST clock in Colorado) but it's super accurate. I have had it one week now and it's gained 1 second. So, it's going to be 4 seconds fast a month. Wow. So pleased with that. [Don't be fooled. This company makes numerous atomic clock models, and this is not one of them. I'm fine with that.]
Color and size is very pleasing and, while all plastic, it looks great and seems like a nice plastic.
- Lighted at night. They nailed this....
