Notrecommended: This is a fantastic book that my nine year old daughter can't put down! Fantastic modern retelling. Yes, my daughter had questions about Jo's coming out, but they were age appropriate ones that I was ready to answer. I'm positive that Louisa May Alcott, who was very progressive for her time, would have approved.

Ms. Tracey Vince: At the beginning of last year I decided that every Middle Grade Book that I read during 2023 will be reviewed on my Blog Page.

I chose Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy by Rey Terciero and Bre Indigo even though I am in the middle of three books I found that I was slumping and for me Graphic Novels always give me a pick me up.

I have not read Little Women before in it's natural form as a classic novel but instead I have read yet another retelling of it in another graphic novel called Little witches Magic in Concord which kept to the time line as the OG was written but instead the March Girls were witches.

Out of both books I would say Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy was my favourite out of the two as it had issues todays readers could relate to from Cancer, Coming Out and others. I found that Amy made me laugh alot she was a little firecracker but the next minute I was literally crying with tears down my face. For me when I get such reactions from reading certain books I know that they will stay with me and so for all those reasons Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy 4 stars.

Mary: I absolutely LOVED this retelling of Little Women. I love how this is a blended family where Jo's mom married Meg's father and then they had Beth and Amy. This is set in New York City which is a great place for it to be set. I love seeing how this book parallels with the original story. That instead of the father fighting in the Civil War he is over in the Middle East. And how they changed Jo and Meg's love lives and Beth's illness. Once I got started it was hard to put down

Paul Merchant: Loved it- kept the essence of the original, the spirit, yet is it's own fresh, current version.

Arthur Vallario: My 9 year old daughter thought the boon was great. I found It looking for books with diverse characters for her age range. She loved the imagery and told me a parent died of cancer in the book. She didn’t tell me a character comes out as a lesbian because she wouldn’t think of that as something I would Say was inappropriate for her. Because it’s 2020 and it’s totally normal for people to be in consensual romantic relationships with whomever they please. I read The book also and thought it was good. Hoping there will be more in this series. I loved little women and will say if you’re a gown up literary purist this might not do it for you. But if you’re an open minded 9-13 year old it’s great.

poorna biswas: Little Women for the millennials !!! The overall charm of the classic still remains intact in this heart warming tale. However be warned this contains few elements of sexual identity exploration so wouldn't recommend for young children.

Sarah: What a wonderful read! I can't claim to be a full Little Women fanatic, but I did love the book as a kid. As an adult, I really enjoyed this retelling! How wonderful to have the same themes of family and sisterhood set in a context of current day. More specifically, I loved that it was in Brooklyn, that it's a blended family, that it's an interracial family, that it deals with modern day topics, etc. In a world where so many books seem to erase the existence of working class people, people of color, LGBTQ people, the military, etc., it was refreshing to read a story that acknowledged and celebrated that those things exist!

The only bits I didn't like were at the beginning where there is some (what felt to me) forced exposition about how the family came to be formed. My guess is that this may have been to cater to a YA audience; myself, I think some illustrated endpapers or pre-story panels with a family tree might have done the job without being quite so heavy handed. But after that initial part, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.

Without spoiling anything, I can say there were pages that made me grin and others that got me all teary. I read the...
