Whatsinaname: This is a beautiful story, full of wisdom and meaningful quotes, featuring a conversation that takes place between two toys in a children's nursery (a Velveteen Rabbit and a Skin Horse).
A highlight of the book, is a conversation between the two toys about how you become 'Real' - after a child has loved you for a long, long time. And how, even when you have become very old and shabby, it doesn't matter. 'Because once you are 'Real' you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand'.
The book's interpretation of what is 'Real' has a far deeper meaning about love that we can all relate to.

Robin Blake: Yes, a lovely book, great illustrations and very nicely presented in that the binding and paper quality are first class. We bought it for our grandson and it would make a great present for any child. Mind you, this book is a classic, not only for children but lots of adults too.

Amazon Customer: I bought this for a new baby, and then bought another for a gift. This is a beautifully illustrated book of this children's classic. Costs a little more than the other versions you can find on Amazon, but definitely worth it!

Tatiana: I bought this wonderful book for my granddaughter. I think stories like that help the kids to grow kind and open to the world.

Amazon Customer: This was one of my favorite stories when I was a child. I’ve been looking for a new copy to buy for my grandchildren. This publication is exactly what I was hoping to find. The ones I’ve seen up until now have been poor in quality. You won’t be disappointed in selecting this particular book.

JH: This is a lovely binding with beautiful illustrations. But not sure I want my child to grow up with this message: that only if you are loved you can be real. We live in a world where pleasing others to be worthy of their love has at times become self-damaging and done to the detriment of our wellbeing. I don't want my boy to grow up and think that the right way to be is to crave for others' love and appreciation. He should love himself first and know that his own self is more important than pleasing everyone and wanting to be loved. The way others treat us does not convey our value and who we are. I prefer Pinocchio where the puppet becomes a real boy by loving and being kind, not by being loved. Should we teach our children to measure who they are by how much affection they get from those around them? Or maybe this is a hidden ode to parents who congratulate themselves for loving their children and thus making them real. Loving one's children should be natural, implied, and inherent in the way the day comes after night and not something to congratulate yourself about or await recognition and gratitude for. Unsure about the message.

Jayne: This is a story I already knew, nearly 100 years old. Still as beautiful today as the time it was written. I bought 2 copies, one for each of my 2 granddaughters, for Christmas. They are both 3 and far too young to handle the book but they will grow into it. In the meantime, they can be shown the exquisite updated drawings and the story can be told more simply until they are able to read it for themselves. My daughter and daughter in law say the book is beautiful both the story and the quality of the book. I think this is book for any age as it is ultimately a story of love. When I can I shall buy a copy for myself.
