June P.: This is a simple, fun, sturdy flip book. It’s a little book for little hands. Very few words, emphasis on opening flaps to reveal animals.

Cassandra SmithCassandra Smith: So for such a chunky book, I expected stronger and thicker flaps. But they’re quite flimsy and that makes it really hard to open for a toddler. And isn’t that the point of this kind of book? So they can be involved?

So this sounds petty, but at this age, I think consistency in teaching is important, and maybe it’s just me and how I learned sounds, but there are a few small inconsistencies that I didn’t think were a big deal but bothered me after a while, especially when my daughter kept getting it “wrong” because, yes, a horse says “neigh” but not in this book. It’s a pony. And cat doesn’t go mew-mew to me. I would say “meow.” And on that page, it asks “Who says mew-mew?” Under the flap there is a cat and kittens but the answer is “Cats”. On the last page it asks “Who says hoot?” I would personally say “who who” or something, not hoot, but whatever. You open the flimsy flap and it shows two owls but the answer is “an owl”. But there’s two!

And why does a dog say woof-woof and a cat says mew-mew but everything else is a single sound (moo, peep, oink). And ducks say quack. Again, ducklings is technically right, but a duck...
