Cazoner Natural Gas & Propane Detector Alarm - Protect Your Home from Toxic Gas Leaks

John Johnston: I purchased this gas detector for use in an RV that sometimes is not hooked up to electricity. This is the only one I could find that runs from plugged in AC current or power bank DC. I recommend this detector except for one caveat. The detector draws very low current so my power bank kept automatically shutting off.
Researching, I found that most power banks will automatically shut off because they expect a higher current draw for charging phones and other devices. If you want to run this detector from a power bank, you should use a power bank that has a low current option. Watch out though many of these still shut off after a couple of hours.
An alternative is to charge something like a phone at the same time as running the detector. This will keep the power bank on but use more of the stored juice so the detector will not run as long. Some power banks will continue to support the low current detector even after the phone is unplugged. Mine continued to run the detector after unplugging the phone after 10 minutes. This varies by power bank so you need to experiment.
Another alternative is you could buy a keep alive device that plugs into the power bank to pull a larger...

JC: I bought this little device when I installed my fireplace, and at first, I was very skeptical of its effectiveness; one morning this little gadget began to alert me about the presence of gas and, I wasn't very convinced but I decided to call the gas company for our safety, the gas company came and inspected inside of my house and no leak was detected, however, their very expensive and specialized equipment was detecting a minuscule amount of gas particles, our neighbor had gone on vacation so I called her explaining the situation and she allowed us to enter into her house through the garage door, when entering her home and checking the presence of gas it turns out that there was a gas leak in his utility room and since the house had been shut the gas was building up and this was the reason for the device to alert me even though the leak wasn't in my house, thanks Cazoner probably your device saved our life.

RW: This natural gas detector is small but has nice features. I got it out of concern that small children could fiddle with the controls of a gas stove that has no lock-out mechanism. I like that the detector has both a color coding that can be seen at a distance and a digital readout to give a more precise indication of the concentration of gas in the air. We tested it with a butane lighter, and the alarm and color coding both work. I used the double-sided tape option to mount it on a wall. At first, I thought that I might need to get a longer power cord, but I was able to find an outlet within reach of the supplied cord. Yeah, the cord's running down the wall is not the most esthetically pleasing, but it sure beats having a gas accumulation launch the roof into low earth orbit.
