R.Jimlad: There are actually 2 lives lost, but who's counting! A tragic story, told with feeling and understanding. Cathy always leaves a piece of the puzzle out to tempt me onto the next page.

Kindle Customer: Great books to read and so interesting. One is not aware of all that is involved in foster care. Cathy Glass is an amazing writer.

Janie U: I've read many books by this author and always enjoy them as they give an insight into the world of foster caring, focusing on the children. So I hoped that this book would give more of the same.
308 pages and 29 chapters so I expected another fairly easy read.
This is a recent story, quickly established by the age of Cathy's children.
Jackson's story starts with the honesty and straightforward approach that is always used by this author. She shares her concerns with the reader but never lets them cloud her judgement when dealing with the child. She always tells the truth (when she is allowed) to the child and here she gives Jackson the space to talk about what has happened to him. It's interesting to read that foster parents do not get training to counsel their children as they often have more contact with damaged children than any other, more qualified, professionals.
CG has a modern approach to most facets of society so it always makes me smile when she used some old fashioned phrases such as "you could have knocked me down with a feather".
This is the first of her books that I have read where there is reference to her writing. It is clear that this is a big part...

Ellie: I enjoy all of Cathy Glass' books, some more than others depending on the story. This one about Jackson, whose family suffered a number of tragedies and the effect of these on his emotions and behaviour, was a riveting one. Tilly, from the previous memoir, was also discussed and there were some happy and sad family events . One was an engagement and one sadly a death. After the 'best Christmas ever" Cathy's dear, caring and accepting mother passed away peacefully in her sleep. I always loved the parts of the books featuring Cathy's parents. They were a loving couple and great role models for the Glass family as well as the foster children. My sympathy to Cathy and her children.I love CG's writing style and how we have come to know her own family as well as the many foster children. Please keep writing!

consumer356864: Another great book by Cathy—(I have yet to read a bad one!)
This is the story of Jackson, but this book is about more than just Jackson’s story. We learned a lot more about Tilly’s story, (who Cathy originally wrote about in “A Terrible Secret”,) and there’s also a lot of major stuff going on with Cathy’s own family.
This is one of Cathy’s books you can’t miss, although, any fan of Cathy’s would never miss any of her books, anyway.
For those new to Cathy Glass, this book can also stand alone, and be fully understood.
Once again I find myself waiting for Cathy’s next book, “An Innocent Baby”, which doesn’t come out until September!

Kindle Customer: Cathy Glass books are absolutely some of the very best most caring, compassionate heart warming stories I've ever read! I'm70 years old now and I've been an addicted reader since I was about10 or12 when my sister read part of a Zane Gray book to me but wouldn't read the rest! It wasn't easy but I had to know the rest of the story so I struggle through and that was the beginning of my reading addiction ! It especially hit home to me because years ago we fostered then adopted our Grandson when he was 4. I'm so glad we did because he has turned out to be a very admirable young man! !

J. Hicks: A Life Lost is another well-written book by Cathy Glass. Her stories are always written with a positive light. The foster care system is not without flaws, but with experienced foster carers like Cathy Glass, many lives are turned around. In this book, a young boy, Jackson, is taken into care, voluntarily put there by his mother. She isn't able to cope with his behaviour during a particularly stressful time. Cathy Glass and her family, along with Jackson's social worker and others in the foster care system and his teacher are able to help him. I would recommend this book to adults and is appropriate for teens.
