AnnaAnna: I was not confident with this device. My dog is 11 years old and so rude. Before my mother passed away she would take him to the vet to get his nails trimmed and he screamed like a banshee. After she passed away I took him in. He had been staying with other family for a year before he came to me. He was the angriest snapping turtle when it came to trimming his nails. I tried different kinds of nail cutters, sedation, everything, even put him in a bag with his legs hanging out. Could not cut his nails. I mean, I could but I rather try to repair a blender blade while it's spinning.
I charged the grinder. Let him see it, sniff it, turned it on so he could hear it, touched the body of it to his paws to see his reaction while it was making that buzzing sound.
Gave him his anxiety meds and I laid on the bathroom floor with him while I gave him a pawdicure.
It takes some practice but eventually I found it easier to take the guard off and grind his nails.
He no longer sounds like angry DMV personnel clacking on their keyboard when he walks.
I finally found a solution to a problem.
Now I've only used it once and have no other grinder to compare it to but I believe this...

LaurenLauren: Haven’t had it for very long so I can’t speak to longevity but it’s lightweight enough and has a good feel in-hand. It seems sturdy and pretty good value for money; and I love the handy cover as well.
My rescue dog came to us with ridiculously overgrown nails and quicks that are right at the edge. He absolutely HATED having his nails trimmed and would cry at even the sight of clippers. I tried different kinds of nail files, the highest value treats, a grooming harness, and even resorted to using my own e-file - which he just learned to tolerate before it stopped working.
That prompted me to get him his own grinder and this has been a lifesaver! It took a bit of exposure and treats with this in his presence before I was able to use it on him; but after the first paw was done he relaxed and was comfy enough to nap half way through as you can see!
We’re swiftly on our way to receding quicks and the right length nails.
So proud of him and so grateful to have found this!

Rachel Quirey: I was using clippers on my old dog's claws because he can't walk much anymore. The clippers were sharp but still he hated them and flinched every time. So I looked up about one of these grinders. I have to say, it's impressive. A humming sound, and he's half deaf so it didn't alarm him. It is powerful, so when using, take care to be very gentle and light strokes for each claw. You have to keep all hairs away or they will be yanked or pulled along with the turning device causing pain. Take care with them, hold the nail and I used my own hands as a guard so I knew if I was getting too near the skin of his paws it would hit me first not him. It would tear the skin off you like heavy sandpaper, wear gloves and protect the dog's inner core of the nail, the eye. Looks like the end of a pencil that is to be avoided. Blood goes through the nail to keep it alive so as I said before, tiny, very tiny strokes at a time and go around the edges at an angle, not dead centre. I'm not trained in this, just writing from my own experience. I watched videos on safety and they were helpful, so would advise seriously to do this, to read up on it and watch tutorials. Worth the price for what you get,...

J Latham: This product is absolutely brilliant. First, I cannot believe how long this battery lasted, I use this regularly on my puppy, every 3 to 5 days, just to get her to use to the sound (not a lot, but they are sensitive). Second, I can do her nails carefully, a bit at a time, stop when she is not that comfortable, try again later. She is not completely relaxing yet, but she really is not resisting it much after sessions with treats, patience and praising. The 2 different settings are great, but the low setting is powerful enough anyway! I do hold onto her nails using my fingers, to reduce shaking on her little toes, but also gives her confidence and protection. I have been using it for 2-3 months on and off. Her nails are looking very healthy, also save us money, not needed to take her to the vet or groomers to do it. Thank you so much for making such a high quality product. I value high quality products, they are much better for our planet. :-) Highly, highly, highly recommend.

Ret: Our dog's nails have gotten out of control. I've been ill over the past few years and we haven't been able to take them on the long walks we all enjoy, walks that also help to keep their claws in check.

We have 2 dogs, a boy & a girl, with completely different nail types. Our lab-mix has traditional nails; the quick is easy to see, the nails aren't thick, and they're easy to grind down. We also have a coonhound who has thick black nails that are closer to talons than claws. Her nails are difficult to trim no matter what method is used.

The lab-mix's nails are a dream to grind down with this device while the coonhound's nails are a nightmare. The hound's nails are so thick that they don't fit well in either of the openings on the device and make it more difficult to use on her. This also means she has an unpleasant experience no matter how comfortable we make it for her.

We do have a few ideas that may help if you're new to this. They're our own trial and error tips; we learned each one having never used something like this on their nails before.

Keep in mind we're not professionals and this is not expert advice. We're providing tips on things that...

Athansor: I have two small dogs—a 7 pound and a 13 pound dog—the smaller, Nixie, with nails where the quick stays far, far up the nail, the larger, River, where the quick is always right at the tips of his nails.

I normally use a Pet Dremel on Nixie’s nails—and although I wouldn’t say she enjoys the process, she’s happy enough to stay in my arms, while I do a few seconds at a time on each nail, liberally praising and treating her after each dab or two at the nails. Her hair is long, but I’ve never had a problem with it getting wrapped around the Dremel shaft, because she’s reasonably passive while I do her nails...and I’ve never had a problem with rounding her nails into a smooth, comfortable shape with the Dremel, because, again, she’s reasonably passive while I do it.

River, on the other hand, is a different case entirely! He HATES the sound of the Dremel (he hates all mechanical noises), and I have to clip his nails a bit at a time, while he lies on his back, and either file them smooth with a glass nail file, or, touch the Dremel to his nails for a split second at a time, treating and praising and rubbing his belly liberally, and allowing him to get up...
