fraulibra: Having previously borrowed trekking poles from a friend, I knew that these would be very helpful on the trails I was planning to hike. But I pulled them out of the package and went to use them right away without reading instructions. Well, they kept collapsing on me. What I needed to do was tighten the nuts on the clips so that the clips would hold and keep the telescoped poles from collapsing. I struggled on the trail until I pulled out my car key and used the tip as a screwdriver to tighten the nuts. One good tightening and I was good for the rest of the trip. Moral of the story: read directions! But in all seriousness, I had to rely heavily on these poles and they served me very well on the trail. They gave me added strength and stability going up and down over rocks, boulders, stairs, and inclines. The poles are lightweight, easy to use, and they come in a travel pouch with all of the extra tips. Trekking poles are a great tool that will enhance your hiking experience, and this is a quality set at a very good price.

Lady PentelLady Pentel: I live in FL but am writing this review while in the North GA mountains on a hiking holiday. I LOVE THESE POLES. I have used them faithfully for 2 1/2 years now and the tips show NO signs of wear. I will define "faithfully" as using them on 3-5 mile hikes on flat dirt trails (FL) and rocky trails with elevations (GA, SC, NC) probably 50+ times a year. 5 STARS+++

ReaderfromBirth: We (in our 50s) have done a lot of hiking/walking over the years and when a specific hike we were interested in last year suggested trekking poles, it got me thinking about whether we'd find them useful or not.
It wasn't until we were headed for a trip to Colorado that I made the last minute decision to purchase these "just in case". Over a course of 10 days, these were useful in over half of our hikes. I found the greatest benefit in using them on trails that were steep (both going up or going down) and especially trails that had a drop off on one side (the poles gave me more confidence that I would not fall over the edge of the cliff). Crossing streams with rocks also gave me more confidence with the poles.
I noticed a difference (not huge) on how tired/sore I felt when using the poles. They were kind of a pain to use on the parts of the trail that were flat-ish but I could have folded them up and carried them (which I did some).
As often I am a solo (female) hiker, I also imagine that the poles could be used in a self-defense situation. Probably not the best - but better than having nothing at all to defend myself with.
The poles were very sturdy (no...

J. Robbins: I decided to start hiking in the great outdoors not long ago and I purchased this set of trekking poles specifically for a mountain peak hike, and I admittedly bought this set because they were the cheapest at the time of my purchase (cork handles), $20.60 new. I was very skeptical about the uses for these, based on what I had seen in videos, which only had people demonstrating them on rather flat, or moderate inclines. Nothing I saw in the demonstrations suggested that these would be more than minimal use/effectiveness. Still, the set was cheap, so I bought them, just in case... boy, what a lucky/smart decision that was.
The mountain peak trail I was hiking went up over 3k feet in 4 miles, I did not see how these would help, so I only carried 1 up with me, in case I was confronted by a rattle snake, or something. I never did use them going up the mountain, so on this hike, where the one pole I brought up with me really shined was on the descent. The trail is very steep, and on the way down I slipped twice, ate gravel once (I slipped toward the cliff edge and had no choice but to throw myself down into the gravel), and from there I made use of the pole, almost like a cane,...

Come Let Us Reason: I use this to get a better pace and feel a bit more like my spiritual kin of the old
covenant. I sit it up like a staff - a bit taller than most would for treking. The extra motion is cathartic. The material used is good and there are several adapters for use at the bottom of the pole to meet different environs. Highly recommended.
