SidSid: My bag was already opened at the bottom and very smartly the ‘Free packet of starter bacteria’ that I was really excited about was stolen. I started pouring sand in my new tank and the sand started spilling out of the bottom! Wasted my sand that I cannot put back in due to my carpeting. I reduced stars for the stolen bacteria packet. Sorry.

M. ShapcottM. Shapcott: I bought 3 20lb bags, but 2 would have been enough for this 55 gallon. I rinsed it outside in a bucket u til the water was clear. This did not take very long. I literally just finished filling the tank with a hose and the water is perfectly clear. It’s coarser than play sand. I do recommend this product! I will be using it in future tanks

Valerie Savoie: Product came as presented. I had concerns that I'd need more substrate for my new 36g bowfront but I found that one bag of this sand was enough for me. I also didn't bother rinsing the tank as I just needed to set it up ASAP before it's too late for the day, and I poured my water trough one of the decorations (a terracotta pot). On my last pour I made sure to add in the bio-clear product the sand came with. I found there was practically no cloudiness compared to other substrates! Highly recommend this product.

Robin L B: sand tends to turn black when theres a solid decoration resting on it for a week. :/ kinda sucks that i have to move my piece of cholla wood if i want it to stay a healty color but, theres not really much else i can do to fix this.

Chris: The media could not be loaded.  Let me start by saying I have a lot of tanks with a lot of different substrates. I breed corydoras catfish and was looking to get away from bare bottom tanks. I was looking for a substrate that they could filter through and display their natural behaviors.

I did a lot of research and there were a lot of recommendations for this sand. But when I looked it up there were a lot of complaints of cloudy water after introducing the sand. In my past experiences I know you have to rinse sand completely before you add it to the tank.

I purchased 2 20 pound bags and was pleasantly surprised when they were delivered and each bag was in its own individual box. The boxes protected the bags very well, both my bags were intact. I got one of my 2 gallon buckets and put roughly 1/4 of a bags sand in it and went outside and rinsed it with a garden hose very very thoroughly. This is very time consuming but it will save you heartache in the end. I rinsed it until the water ran clear before adding it into my tank.
