Carhartt Insulated Lunch Cooler Bag with Two Compartments for Maximum Freshness

Richard Tomaszewski: So I had a very old lunch bag I was trying to replace as it was getting pretty tired. Of course I checked out local places like Walmart for a replacement. Even name brands like Colemans were a little disappointing because the insulation was so thin. Maybe 1/4-3/8" thick? Certainly less than 1/2". My old lunch box was easily 1/2"-3/4" thick. Just by random chance I saw Carhartt made a lunch bag and I thought for sure that would be at least a step above average and ordered one. Nope, it is very average. Disappointingly so when you consider the brand and it's reputation. Not that it isn't made well but it's really not much if any better than any other X brand lunch box. Granted, the price is in the ballpark of everyone else too so at least they didn't charge an exorbitant premium it. Still, I expected better from the Carhartt brand. Knowing what I know now, I probably would have picked a different one that at least had a pocket on the side for a thermos or drink. Since I have it, I'll use it. It works fine. R Stahl: We use this all the time for lunches and drinks when traveling. There is a side pocket for napkins, etc. It even perfectly fits a 9 x 5" loaf pan of banana bread, which I have used it for when transporting my loaf to another location! It always arrives safe and sound! I love that it is well designed, sturdy, and easy to carry. My husband and I can fit both our lunches in the one lunchbox. We have also used it for the beach. Highly recommend!

Dan: This has been a fantastic lunch bag. It will keep things frozen for my whole workday. A small tip, water has the highest heat capacity of any substance, so frozen water will keep things cooler the longest. Put a disposable water bottle in the freezer and throw it in your lunch bag in the morning. I still have ice in the afternoon, and have a cold drink at the end of the day. A simple water bottle is more effective than buying a freeze pack of any kind.

There is one thing that I don't like about it which kept it at 4 stars. The strap is fixed. It is not removable or adjustable. It is an awkward length for me and I would really like to see it changed for an adjustable one.

WillF: I've used this lunch bag 6 days a week since I bought it. It still looks like new. Very impressed with the durability.

Some notes about how much it will hold and how cold it stays: (You know, the IMPORTANT stuff!)

Insulation:
I use two flat gel type ice packs. One on bottom one on top. They will keep my stuff satisfactorily cold for about 8 hours, and ok cold by about 13. ( My after work coke is still cold enough to drink on my way home.)

Size:
I can fit two 12oz cans (or a bottle of water and soda), a microwave breakfast burrito, two sandwiches, several cheese and beef sticks, and a sandwich baggie of chips in the bottom with a little room to spare. (Including the two freezer packs.) The top fits lots of small snacks, some napkins, utensils, and a cup of noodles no problem.( I can stuff a "bowl" of noodles in the top if I bring less bulky snacks.) Side zipper has my condiment packs, and a few smaller items. Alternatively, I can fit a full tv dinner in the bottom with a soda/water bottle and a couple of microwave hot pockets or burritos. (Frozen stuff will mostly thaw after about 8 hours with gel packs.)

On longer than 12 hour days, I kinda wish...

Alex Lundgren: I use this cooler to bring to work and it holds both my lunch container and my breast pump. I am able to put the actual motor part of my pump into the top compartment and my pump parts and TWO 8oz bottles in the bottom compartment along with a bentgo lunch container and TWO ice packs!! I love this lunch box. It is simple but does the job well.
My only critique would be for the strap to be adjustable.
