Tess Trueheart: My 8 yr old boy could read -but he just did not want to.
But this year, our school started a required reading log where all 3rd grade students had to read 100 minutes a week.
I was running out of Ranger Rick magazines... when he brought one of these books home from his school library. He was so engrossed in this book that I would talk to him and he just simply did not hear me. I would hear him chuckling and sometimes laughing out loud as he read on and on.... and on. I would tap him on the shoulder and tell him that that his reading time was up and he could go back to his video game. And I kid you not, he shrugged his shoulders and went back to the book!

While filling out the reading log for him, I took a good look at the book. It is not a pretty book, but it sure did capture his reading drive. The wording was age appropriate and it encourages him to to read with feeling... yelling, questions, whispers,....

A sense of humor is a good thing... I will definitely sponsor this series for him.
