James Anthony: Bought this book because I read it in a school and I love it. It’s a slight tear jerker and isn’t a huge book. Best one yet

LukeLuke: The only thing that mildly annoyed me. The residue left by the sticker on the fabric cover. Why would you put a sticker on a porous material? It’s seeped in and left this horrible mark. Without this it would have been 5 star!

Pinkie pie!: The book is what it is, it's awesome! but... just keep in mind, the book is extremely tiny, it feels as if it's the same size as my hand. Anyway, I think that's more beneficial than anything, making it easy to store. but if you are not a fan of tiny books, I wouldn't recommend this type.

Kaz x: Bought for daughter for school and they have recently started reading it. However it would appear that my daughter decided she could wait to find out what happens and read the end …. Kids 😂. I also read this at school when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Great book 😁

Sandra Iler Kirkland: How did I ever let so much time go by before reading this masterpiece? John Steinbeck in a few short pages has written a classic story of two migrant workers and the American Dream as well as exploring the concept of friendship and what we owe each other.

George and Lennie have been together on the road. They grew up together and George knows that Lennie, while a huge man who can outwork anyone, is simple and childlike and needs help and direction. They ride the rails, stopping to work on ranches and farms. They usually don't stay long enough to get a stake ahead as Lennie tends to do things out of ignorance for the consequences of his actions that get them both in trouble.

The two men have a dream. They want to save up enough to buy a small farm that George knows about. They will have a few cows, some chickens and just enough crops to feed them and have a bit to sell for things they can't make or grow themselves. They will have rabbits and Lennie wants nothing more than to take care of the rabbits.

But this ranch may not be the place to make their dreams come true. The other ranch hands seem pretty much okay and they understand Lennie's limitations. But the...

Johnny Firic: My introduction to Steinbeck could hardly have gone better, and I’ll be exploring his other works with great interest, starting with The Grapes of Wrath. I’m not at all surprised that this is required reading in many American schools, though many elements are very dated, including for example prodigious dropping of the N-bomb.

I must single out two aspects of the work for particular praise: the pacing and the characters. Pacing first. In literature in general, but especially in a short work, nothing may be superfluous. The action needs to begin and end at just the right time, and only the essentials may be given. This is certainly the case in Of Mice and Men. Even the trees and animals described in the opening scene-setting paragraph come into play later, and yet I never felt the minimalism was inappropriate or artificial. In a dialogue-driven text you want the characters as reticent as possible, so that each statement carries the action forward. While the slang and the narrow focus take a bit of getting used to, it isn’t easy to find a line that could have been left out. I can’t imagine many readers won’t be lamenting the work’s succinctness, as I was, thinking...
