MzTracey: I did eat a few and they were lovely and fresh. But, we bought them because whole walnuts repel spiders and we always have lots of huge spiders during the spring and summer. We put some on window sills, or near doors. Others went in little sachet bags we put around the house. It sounds crazy but spiders don't like the smell of the walnut oil. Weve seen a 90 to 95 percent reduction in creepy 8 legged visitors. I tried it sort of as a joke, but we're going to keep doing it

PennyPincher: I bought these to put out for the squirrels and other visitors to our backyard. Unfortunately for them, I cracked one just to taste them and was blown away with how fresh and delicious they are. As a kid, Santa would fill our stockings with unshelled nuts, an orange, a red apple, and a green apple. Each year we'd dump the nuts into a wooden bowl shaped like a nut (or maybe an acorn?) that held a pair of nut crackers in the center of it. While everyone else went for the pecans (their favorite) and Brazil nuts (most bang for the buck), I liked the walnuts because they were easiest to crack open. When those were gone, I'd move on to the almonds. I don't remember anyone ever eating the hazelnuts.
Because I am a neat freak, I never carried on that tradition. Stepping on bits of nut shell is NOT my idea a good time. I had forgotten how different a freshly cracked walnut tastes. As an adult, I've only purchased nuts that are already shelled so I don't own a pair of decent nut crackers. Whenever I have a hankering, you will find me out on the back porch with a hammer and a rock. Sometimes I even share with the critters for whom I originally purchased them.

Katti DiazKatti Diaz: The walnut on the left is the walnut I have always received. The walnut on the right is the kind of walnuts I received with my order that was delivered on 08/17. That is not the walnuts I like. I order from primavera walnuts 5-10 bags a month. I don’t like that this time I received different walnuts. Now I will have to go look for another brand.
