They have all failed me prematurely and peeled off. Then you have the hassle of sanding before trying something else. So, I decided to try this oil based stain. They claim it won't peel, and I don't think it will. Because its an oil, there is really nothing to peel. The stain seeps into the wood grain, and doesn't leave a layer on top. It was easy to apply and the honey teak left a medium/dark color on the deck. They recommend only one coat, which is convenient because the last thing I want to do is a 2nd coat! Cleanup is no fun, but that's what you get with oil based stains. I ended up just trashing the brushes instead of cleaning them. Note that in some states, you can't buy this stuff at the big-box stores due to some environmental something-or-other, so you may have to get it online or travel out of state. The can with the number "3458" is the oil based stuff. If it's a different number, it's probably water based. The oil based stuff will last you longer-- period. I'll try to update this if the stain fades, or when it next needs a fresh coat. Hoping to get 4 or 5 years, then clean and recoat. If...

Cindy Descant: We built a chicken coop and used this stain. This stain is beautiful and applies easily. HOWEVER, be aware of packaging. We were so surprised that the can lid did not pop off. If it had not been for some clamps that were place on the top, it would have popped off. The can rim and the can itself was bent in terribly. Once we open the can, we will not be able to close the lid. The can was just shipped in a cardboard box - not bubble wraped or anything else to protect the can.

GemGem: The Cabot 140.0003458.007 Australian Timber Oil Stain, 1 Gallon, Honey Teak is an oil/solvent based product as described. My experience is that this formulation type is that it will penetrate the wood and provide so much better protection for a longer duration than a water based product. I used a short bristle 'deck stain brush' described as 'made for oil based finishes' to apply this to my 15 year old pressure treated, covered porch deck. It has more 'body' than a 'typical wood stain and brushed out very well with minimal run off on edges and vertical surfaces. Time to dry was approximately 24 hours at 70 degrees F, 60% RH. It dried to a 'flat' or 'matte' finish, depending on absorption into the wood.
Looking into the can, this material is a more heavily pigmented 'brown' color than I expected the 'Honey Teak' color to be (see open can image). My older wood absorbed this readily and since it has patina from weathering, the final color was significantly darker in those areas, leaning toward a 'medium brown'. Un-weathered areas were somewhat lighter in color and surface sheen. (see deck surface image). I expect that using this product on newer wood would result in a more...

Laurie K: Wonderful product. Used to revive my very weathered patio table. This is a one coat only product, which cleans up with water and is fast to apply and easy to use. Came quickly and well packaged.

T: I used this product on my fence and it lasted about 7 full years and still looked pretty good! I'm going to put it on my deck this time and we'll see how long it stands up on a horizontal surface. Be sure to get the oil based version and not the water based one!

Ryan: You definitely need to mix it very well prior to using. I start to do my deck and then it started snowing so I will have to finish in the spring but the color looks amazing. I will post pictures at a later point when it’s completed no complaints just mix it well and ensure you’re applying it to a nice smooth wood surface. I ended up sanding down my entire deck After bleaching it three times
