Amber J: This chalk was PERFECT for asmr. I was so pleased with it's soft, cushy texture and sounds. I just wish it was a little less pricey but I can see why it has gone up because of the demand for it. Highly recommend if you're into chalk asmr!

Bill: I bought this chalk nearly three years ago and just crumbled the last block into my bag at the gym. It's now inexplicably 50-70% more expensive than it was back then, so I ordered a different brand via Amazon for replacement stock.
You can't carry a block of this to the gym and chalk your hands directly with it. It will break and crumble. I crumble a block or two into a big Ziploc bag, into which I can dip both my hands, and chalk up that way, which works well, is fairly tidy, and lasts a long time based on my use.
Other commenters have complained that this chalk is insufficient for rock climbing. Perhaps you need something a bit more resin-y for that. I don't know. I can tell you, however, that it is perfect for barbell lifting. I don't need a heavy layer of it on my hands, just a thorough dusting, quickly working it in like hand lotion. It's a light powder when you crumble it, like talc, very dry, which is what you want it to be.
I use it when I deadlift heavy once a week (started using it at 275 when I was a novice deadlifter.) I also use it when I do heavy trap bar Farmer's Carries (430 lbs these days) once a week, and when I'm overhead pressing heavy and...

Mark Twain: Good gym chalk. Was $12 a pound when I got it. Idk how there are so many reviews saying this is a lot of chalk. It's a decent amount. Probably last 4 to 6 months with regular use. Maybe my palms are abnormally sweaty. & I am in the high humidity of the deep south-east. It's definitely not as grippy as the really expensive stuff and it wears off your hands faster in my opinion. But who wants to pay $30 or more for 1/2 pound? Those are just my initial thoughts - no proof on this. I can climb the same routes with either chalk
Probably burned 2oz to 4oz in a week of rock climbing with a partner. Climbing about 4hours a day. But I like chalky hands not just finger tips.
Comes in 8x 2oz bricks. 3x bricks crushed would fill 1/2 a gallon sized ziplock bag.
1/2 a 2oz brick would easy fill a standard climbing chalk bag - up to a mark where you won't spill it (ie: 1/3 full. or 2/3 distance from top of bag).
Personally wouldn't buy more than a pound at a time. Not sure if it ever goes bad as it's never happened to me... but with 98F during the day and 98% humidity 24/7.... Not a fan of pushing the shelf life on anything. Hope that gives you a good picture of the...

Habitat2050: My wife and I have been climbing for about two months and went through our trial Black Diamond chalk balls that came with our harnesses. To replace it we ordered this chalk because it was cheap and essentially the exact same stuff (magnesium carbonate.)
First impression - there's a ton of this stuff. You receive 8 bricks and while each one weighs only 2 ounces it produces quite a bit once broken up. I used an old protein drink container to hold 4 after I smashed them and it was about half full.
On the walls - there was a certain quality to the Black Diamond chalk that this stuff seems to lack though once you get used to it it performs adequately. Additionally this stuff dries out the hands a bit more than the other chalk but when gripping a small crimp hold on an overhang or sloper it's usually good to have as little moisture as possible on your hands. I would say there is probably some sort of processing that black diamond does to their chalk that makes it feel the way it does but when all is said and done getting a pound of chalk for less than 15 bucks is a steal when it works as well as this stuff does.
For climbing there isn't a much better deal than this...

Jeffery Davis: …they decide to stop price gouging. There is no way a box of chalk should be above $20. I genuinely love this chalk, but I’m prepared to go without purchasing another box for a looooong time.
