Extreme Chef: This coffee maker is great however, I don't like the way the lid closes. They've changed that since the older models. I'm not a fan of how it closes. It has 1 lid that closes down on top of the water reservoir AND the filter area. The part that I don't like is that it snaps shut...but it's HARD to get open. It seems a bit flimsy like I need to really be gentle with it to make it last. I can't just shut the lid normal. Once it's shut, MAN!, it's hard to get it back open. I have to grab around the outer filter area with my hands then use my thumbs to pry/pop open the lid. And it's NOT easy. I have tried 2 of the same coffee makers thinking I had a lemon. But nope!, it's just the way they make it. My other complaint is the height of the carafe (the pot with handle). The lip of the carafe isn't tall enough so when you measure the water in the carafe to then pour into the reservoir, the water in the pot is LITERALLY to the rim!!! I have my coffee pot on a baker's rack a few feet away from my kitchen sink because I don't have room to store it on counter top, so I have to walk from sink to coffee maker to pour the water in it. With the water that close to the edge, I'm soooo afraid I'm...

Mike S.: Brews in about 5 minutes. Nice and hot. Coffee tastes good. Decent design. Cord is a bit short, but not an issue if your outlet is nearby. Oh, it includes the permanent filter, though the netting is plastic, not metal. I didn't think one was included so I bought one at the same time. If you're interested in saving a few bucks, don't buy a filter - and you're welcome. This model does NOT have auto shutoff. You have to buy the more deluxe model with the timer. I didn't see a need for the timer. But it seems strange to me they wouldn't make auto shutoff a feature on all coffee makers these days. I'm always afraid I'm going to forget to shut it off. I ended up creating a daily reminder on my phone.

Zodoz: My 4th model of the Mr Coffee 4 cup maker. I get about 8-10 years between them. They don't last forever because the rubber tubes that supply water to the heater/pump wear and crack from age and or much use, and deposits over years eventually corrode the heater pump tubes making it leak at the bottom, and both have no OEM parts. You can repair it with DIY parts, but it may not be cost effective with today's prices for a new machine, particularly the basic Mr C.
You can delay deposit formation by using vinegar rinse monthly, as in the manual. Deposits will still cause issues over the years as it corrodes between cleaning so I find its best for taste and long Mr C life to used filtered water for brewing, particularly if you have hard tap water. The hot plate can crack as it ages but it still makes coffee well albeit spills go into the bottom of the plate and leak on the table, or the off/on switch break but you can solder a new one, rig the wires to keep it on permanently, then simply plug/unplug it to turn it on or off or plug it to a powerstrip and use the switch on the powerstrip. I've done them all.
Pros
Its simple, there's little to go wrong and easy to fix if...

PJ Arts: Just got this to replace an identical Mr. Coffee that lasted 4 years of everyday use.
It does a great job of actually brewing the grounds (to get full and even flavor out of everything in the cup) at a properly high temperature.
This is perfect for a 1-person residence...or, a situation where only 1 person will be brewing at a time. If you have a situation with more than 1 concurrent 'brewer', I'd recommend something else.
That's because once you get up to brewing 4 cups...you have to use less grounds than usual. 5 cups? Fahgeddaboudit! The reasons is that once you get to 4 cups, the water comes in somewhat faster than the cup lets it drip into the carafe. At 4 cups, with 'normal' amounts of grounds, it may overflow the filter...and, at 5 cups it WILL overflow the level of the filter, and put grounds into the carafe.

MAT in Sun City Center,FL: This Mr. Coffee maker makes good coffee with a sieve filter instead of a paper filter. It is one of very few made for one member families. At the price, it should come with an auto shut off after an hour.
This "five cup" size holds only 3 1/2 measuring cups or enough for only two coffee mugs. I wonder why all such are not correctly marked.
