Steve blahut: Magnet sticks to these screws as good as regular steel, they look the same as well. I work on sailboats so I use stainless a lot. I will find a use for them but where weather wont play a roll. Gave 3 stars because I dont think they are stainless, didnt give a 1 star because they are otherwise pretty solid screws.

Many people don't consider what goes into a decision to buy a screw for a particular job. Clearly the length is a consideration, but often, as in this case, I need to know hard the wood is (relatively) if I need to drill a pilot hole, what sheer or tension strength the screw must endure to do its job, its ability to resist corrosion, and aesthetics.
The wood screws worked out perfectly for softer wood that did not need a pilot hole.
One hint about wood screws I learned from my dad - before you start to turn the screw, run the screw threads along a bar of soap. It truly works by reducing the friction of the screw going into the wood.
A screw is a screw? Not always. If you have ever snapped the head off one, you know what I mean.

Amazon Customer: Ordered 50 and yes, they are #12s and that's great because the retro project requires #12s. On the previous order when I ordered #12s the supplier (not the same supp.ier) sent #8s. Ticked off for sure but I'm keeping the #8s in inventory... you never know.
