The Bodum BISTRO Blade Grinder is the perfect coffee grinder for those looking for an easy-to-use and convenient option. With simple push-button controls, you can operate your grinder quickly and easily. The cord storage in the base makes storage easy and the safety button ensures the blade won't start until the lid is locked, giving you peace of mind. With excellent customer service and overall performance, this electric blade grinder is one of the best on the market. Sweetbay: Good little grinder. It's very important to hold down the lid when in use (per user manual). That keeps coffee dust from floating out and into the mechanism built into the lid, that triggers the motor. It keeps the mechanism engaged properly. Tamp down the finished grind before opening the lid (simply tap the unit on the surface you are using), to keep dust from floating out of the unit and into the grinding switch.
I've ruined one due to lack of diligence. Keep a hand on the lid when grinding (pressing the button), tamp down the finished product before opening, and this thing works great. Easy and quick.
Looks cute, too. I like how the cord wraps out of sight in the bottom.

Matthew Santoro: Works very well! And it’s quieter than most hand grinders I’ve used. The only problem is it’s a little difficult to clean as there is no basin that you can pull out. But I believe that is a design choice, which makes it quieter than the rest.

Oscar A: I was very disappointed with this product. I figured since it was a brand name like Bodum, it would be a quality product. Sadly, it is not. The main issue here is that the lid is much too large and so when you start to grind, you inevitably will get loose grinds flying into the space between the lid and the grinder itself. As a result, when you open the lid you end up getting loose grinds flying everywhere making a bit of a mess. I'd say this product needs to go back to get redesigned. Don't waste your money on this, there are plenty better grinders out there.

SatisfiedW/BubbleB: The flavor depends on the coffee beans you use. Just a few taps on top grinds the beans to powder. It only grinds about 2 tablespoons at a time though. If you try to grind up more than that, I find that the hot water you pour over it or the hot water from a Keurig machine will cause the grinds to spill over the sides of your strainer into your coffee, causing you to have to strain it again to get the grounds out of your coffee. But it is easy to clean. You just unplug it, take a napkin and wipe it out. You don't need to run it under water. Really makes those ground up beans smell delicious. I can use the same one for both decaf and regular grind beans. The grinder is small and fits nicely on counter top.

Alex: I find the coffee grinder itself to be pretty quiet, however the beans being knocked around still wakes up everyone in the house in the morning.
The machine itself is a bit hard to clean, probably best if you have a little brush or just leave the little bits of coffee ground left over in the machine and forget about it.
The lid seems to sometimes struggle to close and I would have to re-align it.

JasonJason: It does what it is supposed to do, and does it well. It is also not loud at all. It is, however, smaller than I thought. I am using a 7g or ¼ oz spoon in the photo. The photo shows 7 spoonfuls in the machine, plus the 8th in the spoon - 8 seems to be about the max. For people who like to grind coffee beans right before brewing, this product is great. For people who grind whole bags at a time, not so time-efficient. Also, it has only one "speed," ie. no coarse or fine selector, so grind longer if you want fine ground, and shorter if you want coarse ground. Overall, I am very satisfied with the product.

petleopard: I read all the customer reviews and as the former owner of both a really fancy burr grinder and a Krups blade grinder (lost in the last move, darn), I can say that those folks complaining about static, uneven grind, cleaning issues, mess when uncapping it (hint: Hold it upside down and tap the bottom gently to loosen the grinds then slowly release the cap), and breaking the red contact pin... I have to wonder: do they complain because they're socks aren't labeled L and R? It's a blade grinder. It does a perfectly good job of grinding my coffee beans every morning. This, in my household, is a very important job indeed. Yes, it "sheds" a little bean dust when you remove the cap. I have never ever had a grinder of any price or type that didn't. Get a sponge. *sigh* I loved my Krups, I loved the burr grinder (ex got it in the divorce), and I love the Bodum.

john: (owned since November 2014)
Durable, solid construction. My only want is inclusion of a brush for cleaning out the grinds that stick to the inside (if your beans have any sort of oil content, this could be an issue). I don't mind having old grinds in the bottom, as it doesn't really ruin the flavour of my coffee. The only other qualm I have is that it is possible to put the lid on such that the red button doesn't align with the notch cut for it. You can feel the lid flex a bit if you accidentally do this. I'm gentle with my tools, so I don't think it'll be an issue, but there could be potential for breakage if you misalign the lid and clamp down on it.
Update (2015-04-28):
This thing is a motor and a switch, but it's taken over an hour for me to get this thing disassembled. What I notice is a lot of crimping, not much soldering (and what is soldered looks to be corroding). Point of failure seems to be snapped winding wire from the motor (was directly crimped to lead of thermal fuse connected to mains input lead). They do try to zip-tie this feeble connection down to provide some stability, but it's not enough. This thing lasted 5 months before failing so badly, that I...

Bob M.: I purchased this coffee grinder because of its light weight, the grippy rubber outer covering, and the fact that I've been happy with other Bodum grinders I've owned. When my arthritis is acting up, the weight and grippy attributes are just what the doctor ordered.
I saw the review remarks about the short (six-inch) cord, but figured I could live with that, given the weight and grip benefits.
The reality is that, when the grinder comes out of the box, it does have about six inches of cord emerging from the back of the grinder.
The further reality is that, once the *rest* of the cord is unwound from the cord storage area in the grinder base, it turns out to be about 35-36" long.
So while the cord storage area obviously does an excellent job of hiding what might be "excess cord" for one user, it also allows those so inclined to "let it all hang out" if they wish.
Beyond that, this whirly-blade grinder does its primary coffee grinding job at least as well as or better than the (many) other blade grinders that I've owned or tried. In my opinion, it is faster, more efficient and quieter than most of the other w-blade grinders on the market, including...

Hope Hampton: Bought this for my brother, he uses it for his weed, he says it works great, he did put some coffee in it once, but preferred the other use more. 10/10 will buy again for someone, because if it works that good for weed imagine how good it is with coffee beans.
