Get the best chainsaw for battery and power efficiency, build quality, customer support, and design with the BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Cordless Chainsaw. PostmanNB: Been looking for an electric chainsaw to cut down small trees on trails on my property. Previously I bought a one of the low cost mini cordless chainsaw that are on Amazon the price was cheap but the batteries did not last that long and it was impossible to buy new or replacement batteries.
The Black & Decker 20V Max Cordless Chainsaw, worked great and used the same batteries that my Black & Decker Alligator Lopper uses.. I was able also to buy extra high compacity batteries.
The problem that I made was to save money I bought one of the used chainsaws that where offered on the sidebar for $96.93. To start the chainsaw worked fine but eventually it became weaker and did not have the power. One day I went out to the garage to get my equipment and put a new fully charged battery on it and the engine smoked.
The upside is that Amazon.ca put me in contact with Black & Decker and being that it was only a month old they will be replacing it under warranty. I am now patiently waiting and hope the replacement arrives in time so I can do some clean up before the snow falls.
October 25th, I received a replacement from Black & Decker and it included...

Taylor ShinTaylor Shin: Purchased it since we already have the Pole Saw from the same manufacturer and batteries. The batteries of course fit. But the chain speed seems to be a bit slow. Didn't try with 'thick' trunks yet. But the saw bounce off a lot on branches... which means the chain speed is a bit slow. This is perhaps my battery is too old, more than 5 years old and haven't properly maintained. I'll try the saw with newer, higher capacity battery.
Pros:
1. Easy to maintain. No need to bring any additional tool to adjust and maintain the chain.
2. Center of gravity with regular (3Ah) battery is good. Not sure for high capacity (~6Ah) or more.
3. Safety button is quite intuitive even for small hands!
4. 10" seems to be short.. but quite enough for household use. In fact, I'm thinking about changing the bar/chain with 8" or shorter since all the logs I have are 6" diameter or less.
5. The chain bar fixture plate is metallic!!
Cons:
1. The lubrication oil needs to be fed to the guide bar manually. You have to not to forget to push the oil cap.
2. Motor is not brushless. This is 2023...
3. No motor stopper. The chain moves a little bit with inertia(?) even the...

Felipe Medeiros: This is a good machine, well built, and good power. The batteries run out really fast, around 10 minutes or less....that's the real issue. At the end, it was a good fit for me, but the DIY project I'd do was "cancelled" so not a lot of use for me anymore. But I'd recommend for anyone that would use it to trim trees, and do small jobs....it works pretty good.

Jeff Sheehan: The saw is slightly rugged, easy to use, and it works very well on cutting thick dry wood. I love that it isnt noisy like its petrol powered cousins! I used corn oil in the lubricant tank and it works great, is cheap, readily available at the grocery store, and environmentally friendly. You need to know that this thing leaks like crazy so set it down on a piece of cardboard because it will leak oil! BTW, it's supposed to leak oil since the oil goes to the chain not the motor. The safety devices are good and read & follow the safety instructions, this thing will kick back on you and the chain will change your face if you let it. The battery works with other 20v tools from B&D but it is likely the first thing to break since the batteries ARE NOT RUGGED, so be careful to not crack the battery casing using this saw. It is an excellent tool for the residential once-in-a-while use by a dandy dad trying to clean up the yard. It has very good battery life but slows noticeably before powers out so be sure to have a charged battery to replace the one in the saw if you have a medium sized job to be done. No need to wear a flannel shirt while using this one but it does make it more...

Kamohomoho: I've been using the saw regularly for over six months. Mostly to cut trees, both small and large as I clear land in the rain forest. The saw is reliable, seems relatively sturdy given the price, and is light, powerful for its size, and relatively quiet. I'd buy another one.
Revision: 12/2015 Spare parts other than the bar and chain are not easy to get. I blew the rubber oil button. It took me quite some time to find one, and when I did it cost me 5 times more in freight and handling.than the part itself. I have a multi-tool that uses the same batteries so extra batteries are an investment, not a cost.
I've been caught in some deluges and the saw seems to take it in stride. I try to keep it under cover, but it's nice to know it can handle unavoidable wet weather.
That said, the battery life for larger jobs is short. I have four batteries, 2 regular and 2 extended. I go through those regularly, depending on the size and wetness of the logs I'm cutting. I've cut up to a 15+ inch diameter hardwood log. The hand oiler is the weakest aspect of the saw. It leaks from the hole in the reservoir cap, and it just leaks from the lube point as well. It can get messy, and I...

SueJeanSueJean: Black & Decker is a name in tools that I know and trust for making quality products. I was happy to see that they make this battery powered chainsaw. We have a gas chainsaw but like many others have noted, starting it takes more energy than using it. I really needed something easier and faster to use. We're mainly cutting Aspen and some pine for firewood.
As soon as this came in the mail, I pulled out the battery and the charger and got it to cooking. It took about 5 hours as the booklet said to reach a full charge. During that time, I read through the instruction booklet and put the saw together. That didn't take more than a few minutes and requires absolutely no tools. I was impressed with the sturdiness of the saw. The saw is made of metal and plastic and is very light and well-balanced.
I'm not a big, strong lumberjack, I'm a great-grandmother, so I'm not all that keen on chainsaws but doing a job without the right tool is just wrong. This is the right tool for me. I was able to cut a nice pile of logs up in the 20 minutes of operating time for the battery charge. I have a picture of my pile below.
I like the weight and how easy it is to use the saw. I...

Harlie's GrampyHarlie's Grampy: This is my second one as I replace one after it was left out in the rain and ruined. I use this for trimming my apple trees once a year. It is light and easy to use. This year I had a 35ft blue spruce to take down. I bet my neighbor that I could do it with the black and decker. Sure enough I took the whole tree down and trimmed. used 2 batteries. I do recommend this saw.
