Trevor Bix: I love the length on these! I have big ol tits and these make it so easy to get a good spark with minimal effort. My 4 year old learned how to strike these. Great rods!

Paul Delaney: This Ferro rod is big making it easy to hold. Because it’s big it throws a much bigger shower of sparks greatly improving you chances of igniting a fire. It also lasts much longer. Put an orange piece of paracord through the end as a lanyard and you won’t lose it.

Chris J.: I have always purchased the smaller (3" to 4"), less expensive fero rods. I've decided this time around to buy 6" in length 1/2" thick rods. I looked here and there until I found these two. A little pricey, specifically for a Canadian, but decided to buy them regardless.
I've used them a bit so far and I'm really impressed with them. They seem to be softer material than what I'm used to, but that could be a really good thing because every stroke, a lot of material is thrown off which violently ignites. It also seems to burn for a longer period of time than what I'm used to (as if it had magnesium mixed in it).
These two bars seem very promising so far ... can't wait to use them for real.
I've tied a short black 550 parachord loop on each, and I've wrapped about 6 to 7 mm of 1" black duct tape near the hole to add a great grip and can provide tape if ever needed.

Mad Mike: I was use to smaller rods, first time i used it was impressed with the amount of sparks it gave off. I lit my tinder on the first or second attempt.

Gail Nicholson: It does what is advertised, I took the paint coating off with sand paper and was able to make small sparks just using sandpaper.

Wall•E: The media could not be loaded. This thing is fantastic. In a nutshell :
Very big, easy to hold easy to grip.
Will last probably for tens of thousands of scrapes.
Sparks extremely easily.
Very durable.
The spray of sparks is wider and much more dense than smaller steels.
Basically it’s very easy to catch tinder on fire
Even works sweat .
The whole is big enough for a para cord lanyard .
Can use as a self-defense tool in a pinch.
Just too fun to use and unlike my smaller steals I don’t worry about using it all up .
OK you may be wondering what’s the point of carrying something so big and heavy to start a fire waiting for the same weight and bulk you could have a 10 pack of lighters. And I would say that this is ultimately durable, waterproof , will never leak , Will never evaporate , will probably light fires for my great grandkids, Will never malfunction , works on cloudy days ( unlike a lens) and it’s just a way cooler way to start a fire than matches or a lighter.
Fire steels are not equal. I’ve owned dozens of them from the quite expensive boutique camping outfits down to the one dollar Chinese clones, And I can tell...
