BAK BAKFlip G2 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover for Pickup Truck Beds

Peter M DeLora: I just purchased an BAKFlip MX4 bed cover. It’s a sturdy cover and looks pretty good but for $1100 the quality is questionable.

- I had a dig aluminum shavings out of many predrilled holes to fit screws in.
-I had to scrape poorly cut aluminum out of the rails to get the mounting brackets to slide in the them.
-The rubber bumpers on the new cover, near the rear window look like they are glued on with Elmers glue, and are about to fall off right out of the box. I’ll need to re-glue them.
-The two arms that support the bed cover when it’s flipped up do not hold the bed cover securely and it shakes while driving.
-When the bed cover is closed, it only takes a few bumps for those arms to fall out of the clips and bounce around in the back of the truck bed.
-Haven’t had rain yet but ran through the car wash and was aurora at the amount of water that gets in still.

As nice as it looks, the quality makes me want to return the product. $1100 is a lot of money for a product that’s not put together well. Contemplating uninstalling and returning.

Jason Berglund: Purchased this a year ago for my 22 Tacoma, it had held up great and there have only been some minor inconvenieces. It’s not completely water tight to the bed, but items don’t get soaked. The clips to hold the cover in the 3/4 position are not very strong, but have not had the cover flipped close while driving at highway speed.
The 5-star is for their customer service. This past week, again a year after purchase, I noticed two small pieces had broken. I called customer service to purchase new ones and they are sending them free of charge. Thank you very much!!!!

KJ: This is a pretty solid bed cover, good build structure. Easy enough to install on your own. I would definitely recommend to people who live where it doesn’t rain much. Under heavy rain you will get a little bit of water in the bed.

Gene Ma: Got this for my daughter's Tacoma as I love the ability to prop it up and utilize the full length of the bed without having to take it off. Shipped it to my daughter as a birthday gift and she had no trouble installing it after watching the video. Great product, well designed, excellent quality and build. Could have gotten a cheaper one but the design and sturdy build are worth it. I have a soft tonneau on my truck that I often have to take off to get to use the full bed, so I'm thinking to get one of these for myself now!

albacorky: Cover is well built and very easy to install in a 2016 Tacoma. Fits perfectly and looks very finished in use.

Of course, it is not 100% waterproof, but should do the job very well unless you have something extremely sensitive to water on the floor of the truck bed, i.e. cardboard boxes that might soak up any of the small puddles that eventually get into the truck bed. A bed mat and/or plastic containers should mitigate most of the risk.

I am disappointed in the security of the latch design. Of course, no bed cover can resist a determined thief with a prybar or other tools. But a crook with a little initiative could easily design a way to reach in and unlatch the wire pull openers with very little effort. There are workarounds on the internet to make the cover and latches more secure, but due to the lightweight materials, and compact design for folding, those options are somewhat limited. Other fixes are more secure, but interfere with the convenience of using the cover.
None of these concerns are a dealbreaker. I am very happy with the cover and I'm sure I'll get many years of use from it.

Kenny: Bought this tonneau cover back in 2019 and recently found the rubber seals between each panel shrunk exposing the seam and leaving it open for water penetration. Emailed the company and received a quick response (about half an hour) they stated it was out of the warranty time line, but they would honor the warranty anyway and will resend the entire cover minus the rails. Beyond excellent customer service. Highly recommend this company.

LC: Cover was fantastic and easy to install on my 2019 Tacoma, however the one error we made was when drilling holes to install the drain tube we drilled too deep and hit a fuel filler line. Take extra pro-cation or avoid this step if you feel incline, as no warning is clearly labeled on the instructions.
But great product!
