Automatic Suction Pool Cleaner from Hayward: Poolvergnuegen 896584000020

Private: I waited to write this review but I loved this thing since day 1. I've owned 3 robotic cleaners costing over $1000 they last about 3 years max with yearly repairs needed. This thing beats them hands down. Once you get suction flow figured out just leave it in the pool and forget it. Cleans just as good and climbs wall to waterline. Can't get steps. Falls off. Will buy another if this one ever dies but I don't see that happening soon.

Rod M: We've had this cleaner for a couple weeks now and it's doing ok. We were hoping for more, but the price was right and the reviews made it sound fantabulous.

First things first, we have a 10k gallon pool that is 3.5' on either end and 5' in the middle and there is a dedicated cleaner suction line in the side of the pool that we use for the cleaner. We do not have a variable speed pump, but in the 6 hours we run the filter pump each day, it's turning the water over a little more than twice. The cleaner will run the entire time unless we take it out of the pool to swim that day.

Here are the pros and cons from what we've seen so far...

Pros:
- Installation: The manual is a bit difficult to understand, but installation is still pretty easy and it only took a few minutes to go from the box to the pool.
- Leaves: It has decent suction and you can adjust the flow rate using one of the three fittings underneath the cleaner (small, medium, large). We get a few decent sized leaves blowing into the pool from time to time when a big Texas storm blows through, so we put the large fitting on in order to grab those leaves. Our definition of "decent sized leaves" is not...

SW: The Pool Cleaner works great. I previously had a Zodiac Barracuda G3 that would not get into the shallow end by itself. This cleaner, when the pool jets are properly angled downward, goes all over the pool and never gets stuck. Although I don't get a lot of debris in the pool currently, I've never had to clear a blockage in the over six weeks since I've had it.

The limit of suction in my pool allows 11 RPM--the minimum of the range of 11 to 13 specified for proper operation, but this is sufficient for the excellent functionality I described. The limit of available suction also means that I can't increase the suction enough for the cleaner to climb the walls, especially in this "Next Generation" version which requires even more suction than previously in order to do that (and maybe an available larger inlet part if, you have enough suction to compensate for it). But climbing the walls is not necessary with my pool because they do not get very dirty--perhaps only occasionally on the shallow end, which requires only about a minute or two worth of brushing.
