David N.: The air pump is built solid. the air flow control is easily adjusted and steady. the accessories were excellent and allows for multiple arrangements. Only complaint is the noise level, it is advertised as being 'quiet' and it is loud enough that I built a carpeted box to put it in to cut down the sound in the room.

Sythe: I bought this to use with a brand new Aqueon 75 gallon standard aquarium as an addition to my canister filter. It DOES NOT FIT. The rim of the tank is too wide to get the filter to sit low enough to the water to work correctly. This is best suited to a rimless tank or one with a rim of 1/2 inch or less 3/8 inch would be best. The reason for the new Aqueon tank is due to trying to press this one down on my original tank which cracked it. The impeller housing also has very small clips that hold it to the main body. These will break if your tank is too wide. I found this out and had to return the item.

Amazon Customer: Well, I was super happy with this filter for the first 2 months of having it. It was very quiet and very effective.
After about 2 months it started becoming very loud and no longer quiet. I read that a dirty impeller may be the cause, so I took it all apart carefully and cleaned it all. Impeller wasn't even dirty, honestly nothing was really dirty. It still makes a terrible noise that's now distracting to have in our living room.
While doing a water change yesterday, (under 3 months), I found that it has a crack where the motor is held on. I'm assuming from the vibration during use? Anyways, it's spewing water out if it and all over the place. It's such a pain because I'd really like to replace it with something that won't break in 3 months, but I had already bought a years supply of filters for it which would then go to waste...
Absolute waste of money

Josh McKee: Fikter is slightly loud but way quieter than my failing Aquaclear. I was skeptical at first, as the filter clogged within 24 hours. Turns out that's just how bad my previous filter was. I rinsed and reused filter for 3 days before I changed it. This thing picked up that much more suspended solids than my aquaclear, water was crystal clear. I'm on week 2 of my next cartridge and it's almost time to change, understandable as I have a heavily planted tank and there was a lot of debris. 2 thumbs up, I don't like that it's not as customizable as an aquaclear, but by God it will clean the water column.

This filter set will arrive with everything you need to install and run your filter. If you are somewhat new to having a fish tank / aquarium, you may wonder while you are browsing/purchasing your filter set-up if you need to purchase any other items not listed; don’t worry that you need any other parts, pieces or tubing, because you won’t need to purchase anything else.

The set arrives in quite a few pieces that are very easy to put together:

• Filter Housing (the main filter container);
• Filter (or Cartlidge) with a convenient finger tab on top (this finger tab is priceless when you are removing your old filter and replacing it with a new filter!);
• Biological Cartridge Holder (the plastic piece that holds the actual filter inside of the filter housing);
• Filter Pump (attaches to the bottom of the filter housing);

Andrew and Michelle: We have two of these (one for our home fish tank and one for my fish tank at school). They are both working great after months of use. They operate quietly and the water hitting the surface is soothing (at least to my ears).

They are very easy to install - just take it out of the box, remove the cover from the unit ans a few pieces of plastic and reassemble. Then just attach the intake spout and run the cord along the side and you are ready to put it over the side of your tank.

It is also easy to clean when you need to do so. Check the inside (just lift the cover on the unit) and see how much gunk is built up. Once you notice a layer of brown stuff on the filter element itself, just unplug the unit and take out the pieces. You can wash them each individually under running water and then reassemble. I haven't had to replace any of the inside filters, yet, so I can't speak to how expensive that it, but I will keep you updated.

I would buy this model again, if needed.

S. La France: I purchased this filter to replace an Aqueon 30 Quietflow filter that had stopped working on my 29 gallon tank. While it was working, it kept the water pristine and I expected the same from this filter since it was from the same manufacturer but stronger. That didn't happen. From the start the Aqueon 50 did not clean the water as well as the 30. It left particles in the water at all times and was much louder. I also noticed that only after a week the water smelled awful! I called Aqueon because I noticed that some of the water was bypassing the floss and just going right back into the tank. I was told that the floss that I had might be too dense to allow proper flow. I was sent a couple new floss cartridges. I swapped out the old and things seemed to get better - for a week or 2. The floss seems to clog quickly even with swishing in old tank water to clean once a week during water changes. I called Aqueon to ask what their recommendation was to try and quiet the impeller and they said that it was a stronger unit so of course it would be louder. I lived with the buzz for another couple weeks until today when I noticed that there was quite a bit of debris floating around in the tank...

Ray: Works very well. Fairly quiet but not totally without sound. Build quality seems to be fairly nice and it moves a great amount of water and self primes very quickly.

However the filter cartridge fitment is a little sloppy so that the tab on the filter sticks up and prevents the lid from sitting all the way down. Because of this I had to tape the lid down so that it would seal correctly around the pump/filter reservoir. Perhaps if you were willing to cut the tab off or do some trimming you could make it fit better.
