OrionOrion: As you would expect they filter water. about 38% of the ruber suction cups have tears in them so they wont stick. 5/10. would recommend 2 per 10g

Jeana schumacherJeana schumacher: The price is great! However, they just didn't cut it for my 10-gallon shrimp tanks. I ended up going with a power sponge filter and it's much better. What I do like about these, is that all of the pieces can be taken apart and rearranged into different things, or smaller filters (as shown in photo I made a smaller one for a brine shrimp tank) I have also used the parts to make egg tumblers. I havep also just used the sponges to grow beneficial bacteria for use in seeding new aquariums. So I am still happy with my purchase and would order again for this reason.

Dave: My shrimps love them!

John Murray: I breed aquarium shrimp and these filters are perfect. I set the output right at water level to keep the surface agitated. The shrimp love eating on bacteria that form on the sponge. The sponges slide off easily during cleaning when I’m doing tank maintenance. To clean, just squeeze the sponges a few times in a bucket of tank water and replace. Easy peasy!

Dakota Dakota: I will NEVER go back to regular filters!

I stumbled upon sponge filters about a year ago and was pretty skeptical. But after talking to the man at the local pet store, I gave one a try and that is all it took. I'm now running four delicate tanks and breeding fish and these are all I use.

Easy to install, you don't have to replace them. When you do a water change, just squeeze them out a few times under running water and put them right back in (don't forget tap water conditioner).

Excellent quality and they work great!

John: Would have got 5 star but only really got use 3 out of the 4 yes I did receive 4. All 4 should work but packaging was broken and 1 of them maybe damaged because of it.

ashley mcilroy: Small but they work

Eezebard: Order arrived on time but there were no suction cups with the order, so how am I supposed to attach the units to the tanks. When I add air to the filter it’s just going to float and be useless.
‘UPDATE’… Amazon returned my money and asked me to reorder the Filters.
The Filters were delivered a day early and all the suction cups were with the Filters this time.
I’m happy now and they work awesome :)

V.Ryan: I am so happy I got these little guys. They work so effectively. I used these in my betta, mollie and guppy tanks.

I do have some pointers for those thinking about purchasing these.
NOTE:
-These sponges are more dense so if you are running an air pump that doesn't fit your tank size, it will struggle.
-Because of their density, they pick up more. That means you may need to rinse them more frequently.
-If you notice your bubbles aren't coming up uniform, maybe gurgling, that's an indicator that you need to rinse them.

**You should always rinse your sponges using water from the tank, I suggest doing so when you do a water change. I use buckets so I pop the sponges off before I dump the buckets: rinse, shake, squeeze them into that bucket and pop them back on. That helps keep your BB (beneficial bacteria) in your sponge and not introduce any heavy metals and such (from the tap). Your fish and plants will thank you. Also, you won't be wasting water or making extra trips to the sink. ;)

Galto69: I love these filters. I have 2 x 10g, 6 x 20g long a number of oddballs and a couple of show aquariums using these filters and they are fantastic.
Being able to clean one of the sponges at a time ensures that you don't kill all the bacteria. It also allows you to trade one new sponge for an in-use one and start a new fully cycled tank. I keep and extra one of these filters running in my 85g show tank so I always have two fully seeded sponges for emergencies.
My fish graze the filters continuously and baby fish will not be harmed.
These are the only filters my 11 yr old can clean by herself without problems.
I have been running several of these filters for more than 5 years without the sponges needing replacing.
Sponge filters are the most efficient filtration method in terms of power usage. If you are setting up a fish room then you can use one (large) air pump and many dozens of these sponge filters for 100 watts or less. Air pumps are extremely reliable and long lived. I have never had an air pump of any kind NOT restart after a power failure which I can not say about water pumps like hob or canister filters. I have my air pump on a UPS battery which will run my...
