APC RBC7 Battery Replacement Kit for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

MP: Full disclosure: I literally used to work for APC, which is now owned by Schneider Electric, and the quality of the line-interactive Smart-UPS is just great. I am quite glad to have an SMT1500C and it has saved my PC at least twice from dropping during a weather-related power outage. This RBC is of the same quality - reliable and even though it's cumbersome, it's easy enough to install. What a user needs to know, however, is how to reset the battery monitor in the UPS when a replacement is put in and that can be confusing unless you know how to do it. And I would not use aftermarket batteries with my Smart-UPS. A factory RBC is always the best way to go.

Scott H. Price: I’ve been using these APC branded replacements without issue for a couple of decades now. They cost more, but piece of mind is worth it.

I went the non-OEM “a battery is a battery and I like saving money” route several years back. I had 2 identical units that use these batteries and both of the non-APC replacements ended badly. They both lasted about as long as the OEM batteries, but instead of just testing bad and replacing them without incident, they both got so hot that I had to turn the units off and unplug them for 12 hours until they were cool enough to touch. Once I was able to access the battery compartments safely I found that they were both completely stuck. I forget exactly how I managed to get them out, but I do remember that they could be moved slightly from side to side and that it took quite some time to “rock” them out. Once I removed them the reason was apparent, both batteries had shorted out cells that had swelled as a result, effectively locking them in place. Dan H: APC makes a great product, and the battery is the same. Unfortunately in the past they came with a return label for proper recycling. That intelligence is doesn't seem there anymore making properly disposing the old battery far more of a problem. I can understand that postage on them may not be cheap, but they should have partnered with a service to respect the environment. It's possible Fed-Ex, DHL, or UPS, etc would love the positive attention as well as being a big write off to help consumers properly recycle these large batteries. Maybe APC will work a little harder on this goal. One grip I still have is how dangerous the unit is not being able to disable it or even turn it off easily. I'm relatively confident, some day it will kill someone. I hope it isn't you or your family. Any power device surely should have an emergency disconnect. No one in my house is so pathetically stupid, they'd turn it off accidentally. At least not for the decades I've used APC products. Just really horrific leadership at the company to insinuate people are so stupid. Well, all in make me think is that the people at APC are, if they need to booby trap it to kill people instead of simply disabling...

Cette batterie achetée sur Amazon 216,98 euros (une folie !) en novembre 2013, m'a duré 3 ans puisqu'elle m'a lâché fin 2016 entrainant avec elle l'alimentation de mon poste de travail (cout 200 euros de plus). Elle était dans un APC smart UPS 1500 VA.

JE DECONSEILE FORTEMENT CE PRODUIT car a ce prix il vaut mieux acheté de la sous marque et en changer tout les deux ou trois ans on est davantage gagnant. Je rappelle que j'effectuais des cycles de charge et de décharge au moins une fois par mois en laissant du matériel informatique fonctionné sur l'onduleur débranché du secteur pour solliciter la dite batterie. Voltage constater au multimètre 10,8 V. Lorsque je la branche a plusieurs onduleur du même type même constat impossible de charger : BILAN HS

Bigusdave: I was a little worried reading some of the other reviews in case I got a non APC part; however I needn't have worried. This was an APC original part properly packaged in a purpose made Styrofoam outer and the appropriate cardboard box. it arrived as specified and was a doddle to swap the unit out, so far is working as specified, only time will tell if it lasts the 8+ years the original cells did. so far so good.

I think the trick is to make sure that your order is direct from amazon so that you get OEM parts not generic. I would not accept generic parts for this price. I also bought the Ritar cells to compare in an identical unit. so far no difference other than having to use the old fuse and wires and saving 50% of the costs

awGuru: Battery is not APC original badged as per the image and thus misleading.
The one I received was freshly made and delivered quickly.
Had to re-program UPS manually to resolve the battery status problem.
Hope it helps others, do at your own risk:

APC Smart UPS 1400/1500-2200 - Program to optimal status procedure:

1) Serial cable to UPS, NOT the USB cable
2) Stop ALL APC PowerChute Services
3) Connect to UPS (HyperTerminal)
4) 2400 Baud; 8 bits; 1 stop bit; no parity; Xon/Xoff protocol
5) Empty window --> PRESS [SHIFT+Y] --> console should now show "SM"
6) SM Window --> PRESS [1] TWO times with a TWO second pause --> console should now show "PROG"
7) PROG Window --> PRESS [0] This will report current UPS status (Optimal is 8C)
8) PRESS and HOLD [-] key to program the UPS, cycle to "8C" [-], finally PRESS [+] key at "8C" (Long list!)
9) 8C is final line showing in console --> PRESS [SHIFT+R] --> console should now show "BYE"

You are finished, you have reset the hardware to report as optimal status
You will hear clicking sounds from the UPS as you cycle through the list, this is normal
You may PRESS...
