Jaw: i never had any kind of handheld air tester before. i had a smell in my house that i thought might be because my central air filter hadn't been changed in a long time due to pandemic restrictions, so i called an HVAC company to replace the filter. The guy who came checked my HVAC roof unit, after hanging something that looked like this tester, orange is a & black, on one of my room air register vents. the device made a steady beep. The device hanging in the room by the vent started beeping faster and faster. When he came down he said the heat exchanger was cracked, causing carbon monoxide exposure and said i need a new HVAC. He told me about the kind his company would install for $10,000 to $14,000 or more, and he was ready to start. i told him i would look into it, he said not to use the heat, and this was summer so i didn't need the heat. After he left, i wanted to get a hand held tester like he had. The brand he used was listed on Amazon but reviewers said this one was as good, so i got this one. Since my central heat is turned off, i assume the tester is accurate when it doesn't detect CO where the other one did with the heat turned on, he said to turn it up as high as it...

Pete F.: I got this to test if my diesel heater was emitting CO. I'm not sure on the accuracy of this device as I have no way to test it. I can say the sensitivity is great. It can detect a lighter or candle held near it. That's good enough for my purposes. I was shocked to find that CO levels < 20 ppm in the house, garage and even outside sometimes.

Being able to compare relative levels of CO has given me peace of mind. I still use this in combination with a name brand CO alarm just to be safe. Those alarms do not usually show or alert on such low levels that this device can detect.

David B: I compared this meter to a co-worker's $300 unit made by Forensics. The vehicles I work on are often checked for CO seeping inside and I just happened to find one that had a pretty big leak. I put both meters inside the vehicle and watched from outside while we warmed up the engine and both meters read the same after 20 minutes, but this little cheap one reacted MUCH faster than the more expensive Forensics meter!

I don't know how reliable it will be over time and, when I'm inside of an area that could a have CO problem, I'd never use this as my only meter. BUT, for the single test I did with this meter, this thing seems to be an incredible value.

The only things I really don't like about it is that it took a VERY long time to get to me after I ordered it, and it's alert does not include a vibration or bright light as part of the alarm. Other than those things, if you're using this to check in-home CO levels, I don't imagine this would be any sort of problem.

I think that if you need a CO meter you could probably rely on this cheapie and not have to worry about safety!
