Silvia M Munoz: The overall size of the book is a little small but it helped us get a school reading assignment completed and delivery was so timely.

T Turner: Brilliant book but no Book 2,4 or 5, in English available in the series?? Yet apparently the WHOLE series is for sale? How is that possible?. And why would I pay for an incomplete book series?. Shame. Would love to read them all, but now just got the first one, which I'm reading again after so many years, still great.

Lynn: The story begins with a vampire agrees to be interviewed by someone he repeatedly refers to as a “boy”. Of course, to a 200 year old vampire any human male might be called a boy, but we will assume the interviewer was very young. The young man has an old fashioned tape recorder and repeatedly changes tapes throughout the story, so it’s easy to place the story in the 1970’s. The young man’s name is never given.

Louis de Pointe du Lac was was twenty five year old plantation owner when he was turned into a vampire by his maker who needed the riches Louis possessed. Louis finds the experience of being a vampire story worthy and always felt that his maker Lestat was too indifferent to the wonders of their senses and their vampire powers.

Louis was fascinated by Lestat as a human, but once he became a vampire himself he was no longer under the vampiric glamour, suddenly he realized that he couldn’t stand being around his maker. Unfortunately there were things he needed to learn and Lestat was the only vampire available to teach him what he needed to know. Such as the fact that Louis hated killing humans and Lestat withheld the knowledge that animal blood was...

Earnest Caligula: Being familiar only with the Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise film, I was unprepared for the full richness of this novel. I may, in fact, have been smoothly dismissive of it. That is unfortunate, but now stands corrected. Rice's novel is an exquisitely rich and rewarding read, and strives in the end, to offer us something close to 'what it means to be human,' or 'what 8t means to be alive.' Lots of novels of the high literary sort attempt this, 9f course, and fall short. And if this novel doesn't achieve it, it isn't for want of Louis, the vampire who tells us of the terrible price he pays for immortality, hasn't tried!

Along the journey with him, we're treated to the wild, borderline-genius imaginings of the author, whose story is so well-constructed that it pulls you along from one brilliantly plotted moment to the next, inexorably. I say 'plotted' but the events herein don't feel in any way fabricated, but natural l, balanced, profound and...beautiful in their own desolate way.

If you haven't read it, devour this novel as if you are drinking from the fountain of youth. But beware -- the price of living is death. And it is death that gives it meaning, something immortality...

Phillip C. the Artist: Sometimes a book comes along that pulls you in, and takes you far away from what you know, opening doors to other worlds and a life you had never dreamed of. A book that will haunt you for the rest of your life 'Interview With The Vampire' is one of those novels, like Wuthering Heights, Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Frankenstein, that sweeps you away in it's twists and turns challenging ones psyche with it's soaring breadth of incredible storytelling and imagination.
Well, I will tell you, this novel is right at home with these classics.
As I read this novel the main story blazed like a great flame and magically lit my imagination and memory leaving an indelible and endearing mark .
"Anne Rice's indomitable spirit shines and here you see how her intricate descriptions and talent of invoking deep emotions could fuel a literary career of legendary proportion."
In this story Louis relates a tale of his reluctant immortality, a morose and emotionally frail man who has suffered great loss. Taken over by a force a charisma embodied in the likes of the vampire Lestat, a vain, selfish, sadistic, and 'even' *gasp* ..sardonic individual driven by his mercurial and unbridled...

Dodo: And whoever feels comfy enough to read books in English - please do so when it comes to this one. None of the two German translations has ever really grabbed the full impact of Rice's original bizarre and utterly compelling mix of old-fashioned and 1970s English. Listen to the true voice of the vampire and you may get it why this book has become a so-called "modern classic" (something nobody in their right mind would say about the rest of Anne Rice's vampire books). It will make you smile, shake your head in disbelief, groan and laugh out loudly. Admittedly, the story gets much darker towards its end and unfortunately the lighter, ironic notes are finally completely lost as it starts spiralling into that realm of vampire fantasy Anne Rice's works will subsequently inhabit.

The unusual protagonist has been called "the original Emo" and "the vampire for the goodies" but that's actually more due to the rather santanized film version in which Louis is not allowed anymore to show his tendency for aggressive mood swings (not just constant whining) and physical violence (at one point of the novel he smashes Lestat's head with a poker, screaming something along the lines of: "Die,...
