A. Douglas Woelfel: This is a high end solution to my damp basement. It works great. Quite a bit more expensive, but worth it. The unit is quiet enough and cycles on/off once desired humidity is achieved. The basement is no longer damp. The unit produces some heat, but during colder months that is a good thing. During the Summer it was only a bit warmer in the basement, but dry.

Sailor: MY ASSESSMENT: I like this machine and was very happy with the timely delivery, ease of set up and the low amount of noise it generates. I am however planning to return it as it does not appear to have the capacity to dehumidify as the specs imply based on my specific conditions.

MY SITUATION: To give a little more context to this decision, my home is in a river basin in the Southeastern United States. The area I am dehumidifying is my crawlspace. The size is 1200 sq. ft. (which is EXACTLY what this unit is spec'd for). I have a feeling this machine is spec'd for "normal" conditions as anyone who lives in the South will tell you things can get pretty abnormal in terms of humidity.

WHAT I FOUND: after running it for over 72 hours it is has not been able to pull the humidity down to the level I prefer (50%). I have 3 temp and humidity sensors in my crawlspace and they have been fluctuating between 57 and 65% (Started at 75%) since starting this machine up. Even the sensor on the unit itself has only been able to pull down to a low 56%. (Just checked it and it is back up to 61%). That said, having this machine run constantly until winter (when things "dry down") does...

Ronald: In spite of some problems that I initially encountered, I believe that for its operating capacity the Alorair H55 (Blue) Sentinel dehumidifier is one of the best products on the market place today.

Why do I think this dehumidifier is so good? To be honest my past experience with the entire dehumidifier manufacturing industry has not been a happy one. In the past 10 years I have bought (and obtained through warranty exchanges) over 8 dehumidifiers. I have a relatively small encapsulated crawl space (1,400 SF) which I kept dehumidified using residential 35 Liter per day units. The units that I bought were manufactured by Frigidaire, Friedrich, and Hense. They are all junk! They are designed to fail within 12 to 24 months. Although one would think with the vast choice with the plethora of various manufactures of residential dehumidifiers that quality would vary; having removed the cover off of these failed units it appears that the functioning components (compressor, condensing, and evaporating coils) are all the same and probably come from the same factory located somewhere in China.
