I couldn't use the supplied straps because the bumper on my RV is tubular, not open on one side. I had to purchase different straps and then install it on my spare tire. It is very sturdy, time and lousy Louisiana highways will tell the tale.

Quincy David: I originally purchased the Hollywood Racks SR1 for $300 thinking it was “premium”. Problem was it didn’t allow the rear window to open while mounted and it just didn’t feel worth the $300 + HST. Anywho, took it off and installed the Allen rack based on a recommendation and it is absolutely brilliant! It installs in seconds versus the SR1 which takes several minutes to set up. Like the SR1, it allows for the door to be open with the bikes mounted AND I can still open the rear window! The MAJOR bonus is this thing is less than a third of the price! One of my best value purchases for the FJ Cruiser yet! This is an absolute steal versus the competition! Highly recommend!

Lance Casual: This was easy to install and it works as expected. I'm happy. Improvements could be the product providing a way to lock itself to the vehicle, as well as strapping the rack to the vehicle at the top of the rack, both for piece of mind. I purchased a separate strap to wrap around the top of the rack and the spare tire, since it only attaches at the top by gravity and friction with the rubber tire. It straps to the bumper at the bottom. Also when I'm riding my bike, I use the bike lock to lock the rack to the tire which has locking lug nuts. All good.

Carlos A.: Tienes que ponerlo un poco inclinado para que no pegue con el limpia parabrisas, el cual no se puede activar con el rack puesto porque lo bloquea.
Muy útil y facil de montar y desmontar.

roger w: while easy to use and to attach to your car (depends on your car) keep in mind it doesnt lock to your car so its easy to steal, bikes and all. yes you can lock bikes to the rack but the whole thing can be easily removed and thrown in the back of a truck or something. bikes stay secure, dont move or bounce around. depending on car height, your height and bike weight, easy to lift on and off. do recommend as an easy way to take your bikes with you to trails and such

Jim G.: I have a 2009 Rav4, first time I took the cover off the spare tire since I bought it . Prior to receiving the tire rack I was cautioned, maybe a little worried by the reports / reviews, that once installed you should pack item that you may need while travelling to the front of your storage area as you will not be able to access through the back door while having the bike rack installed. No "biggy" I thought, I even advised the boss that she should keep this in mind for packing the car.
When the unit arrived I actually installed it myself (woo-who for me) and placed the hooks on the bottom of the door, NOT under the bumper. I had to / needed to have my son check my install, he's a pro. A JEEP owner with hard top, soft tops, wake boards, kayaks, canoes, trailers, sleds, ratchets, ropes, duck tape, you name it he has cargoed it. He gave me the passing grade for my install and he was quite impressed as well.
I drove around town with my bike for a day or two prior to 3000 K trip that I'm 1/2 way through. Awesome, no issues, and I have full access to and through the back door. I am only carrying one bike mind you but I would not foresee any problem with two bikes on board.

AllisonAllison: We got this bike rack to use on our 2008 Toyota
RAV4, to take our bikes to Florida on an 800 mile train trip with a 5 hour drive continuing afterward. I read a lot of reviews before I decided on the “premium” version for a few dollars more—primarily because I wanted the convenience of the rubber straps that are easier to strap the bike down (and remove) rather than the nylon straps that you must thread through the plastic clips that come with the lower-priced rack.
Overall, this is a very sturdy bike rack, and it worked very well for our trip.
Read on for a few things that disappointed me:
The instructions are clear enough, but I did have to take a couple of extra minutes to figure out how to attach the lower bar to the rack. You need two 7/16 wrenches/ratchets to do that. I took a couple of close-up photos to show you which way it goes. Even after the couple of extra minutes to read the instructions a couple of times, I still put that lower bar on backward and had to remove it and redo-it.
The instructions say to remove any outer cover off your tire before installing the bike rack because you might damage that cover. The downside of that is...

Amazon Customer: I was researching different bike racks for my 2012 RAV4 and was considering a $300 model from REI. At $50, this one seemed cheap - suspiciously cheap. I ended giving this one a shot and I'm very pleased with my purchase. Installation took just a few minutes and it was good to go. Note for this model of RAV4, the straps were just barely not long enough to loop around under the bumper. I worked around this by attaching a carbiner clip through the hole I was attempting to reach with the strap, and attached the strap to the clip.
The first time I used this was for a 750 mile drive from California to Utah on a fairly gusty day. Although it seemed very sturdy when installed in my driveway, it was still nerve racking for that first tank of gas. I was constantly watching my rear view mirror, paranoid it would somehow pop loose. I inspected the bikes during my first gas stop and they were snugly strapped in just the way I left them. I did not worry about the bikes for the rest of the drive.
I could not be more pleased with my purchase.
