My poodle had to have unexpected surgery and I didn't have time to find a good cone. Ordered tons of cones including Comfy Cone and this is the only one that fit and was not too heavy for a toy poodle. The Comfy Cone is very stiff and the small was too small whereas the next size up was big. The Comfy Cone is stiffer so I had to use the big one when the dog was unsupervised. Alfie is a bit too soft and there can be moments when the dog can flip it although not very oten. Really couldn't have survived the recovery without this Alfie cone. Also the loops for the dog collar is a must. Velcro alone doesnt cut it on most of the plastic cones.

Jef: I bought this (two medium size) for two of my dogs after surgery, both miniature schnauzers. It worked ok for the smaller of the two but the other is a little bigger and has a slightly longer snout, he was able to lick his stitches without much difficulty. I then ordered the large for the larger dog and it wasn't any better. The cone was larger in that it is meant for a dog with a larger neck, but the cone wasn't any deeper than the medium and therefore was no more effective.
I think it would work on a short snout dog like a pug, bulldog, etc. And it was definitely more comfortable for my dogs than a hard plastic cone, (not to mention easier on my furniture and walls) and easier for them to eat and drink whilst wearing. But if the dogs snout is longer than 5 inches from where it's collar rests on its neck then it probably won't stop them from licking themselves.

tinkink: Have a 5pound chihuahua. He is 3 pounds anxiety and 2 pounds rage. He was recently neutered, tiny imp needed a cone. The one from the vet ended up being too deep for his stubby snout. Good thing I had this one because it would have been a Herculean task for him to drink or eat with the vet-provided cone.
This cone is soft and floppy, so if your dog is crafty they may be able to invert the cone. Yes your dog will now have a regal looking collar if it manages to invert the cone... but it could give them access to whatever the cone is supposed to keep them away from. So watch your gremlin in this cone- do a test run ahead of time if you need the cone post-surgery.

Wisty6: We tried the inflatable and I was worried it was too rough. This was perfect. I was comfortable letting her wear it 24/7 and wasn’t worried about it hurting her. It did get dirty, but I wasn’t that worried about that. She couldn’t reach her spay incision and it was comfortable and she was able to still eat/drink wearing it

CA Reader: This is a cute (and seemingly comfortable) alternative to the cone-of-shame but it didn't work for our pup. She was able to bend it back and get at her stitches pretty easily. The donut worked far better for our dog.

Deanna: I like the strong Velcro, this fit perfect around my dogs 10.5 inch neck, she hates all cones but at least you can put this one on your dog quickly so it’s a lot less stressful on the dog to get it on. I’m not sure if she can get at herself as I have not left her unattended and she wears it to bed when I can’t monitor her constantly .

Wendy: This collar fit my dog perfectly around the neck, but it is so long and obstructive that he could not see his feet when going up and down the stairs. In fact when he got up to greet my husband when he got home he tripped and fell. After his first time going down the stairs, and watching how dangerous that was, we didn't dare let him use the stairs by himself again because he couldn't see where he was going. Returned.

KMKM: My dog is dealing with a host of issues including irritable bowel disease and allergies. He's in a pretty severe flare up right now and chews his paws obsessively. Poor guy has to wear a cone 24 hours a day and although this doesn't prevent him from reaching his paws, it does distract him enough that he can wear this when we are supervising him so he can get a break from the large plastic cone. I will say that it fits quite small. My dog is 13 lb and we got the medium and I would not have gone any smaller. It seems to be comfortable and from what I can tell, much nicer to relax in then the hard plastic one or the inflatable pillow which gives him a neck ache after a while I'm sure. I would definitely recommend this for someone looking to give their dog a break from the hard plastic cone of shame.

BLHuxley: My shih tzu has an 11 inch neck. We're currently working on ridding his body of yeast/candida so he's lost weight and he needed a new cone. I purchased a medium size for him and don't need to use the entire velcro section, just half of it and it holds very nicely. I also like to use a long, stretchy piece of material to thread the loops of the cone as opposed to using his collar as makes the on/off easier.
He can't scratch the rash under his chin or lick/chew at his front legs but can reach his back legs due to the give of the cone. This is the second one I've purchased and would buy another if necessary.

Nia FlukerNia Fluker: My 3lb toy poodle puppy come home with a plastic cone on her head that was digging into her chest. I bought this cone so she could recover more comfortably. She didn’t have that much of an issue with the cone from the get go, and as time went in, she was 100% fine with it. It is very soft and she was able to sleep and eat with the cone on. It was also sturdy enough so she could not lick her incision. The only thing that I think is a drawback is that the cone holds smells. She kept licking the cone and it started smelling very bad. A quick wash in hot water was able to remove the smell though.
