Dan: Brilliantly written in plain-English so makes it easy to understand the truth about alcohol. Recommend highly for anybody wanting to stop or perhaps just wanting to understand how it affects the body and mind.

Sumir M.: I’ve read multiple books on alcohol, but this one seems to be the most accurate representations of the thought processes of alcoholics. It really helped me through quitting drinking! (Again)
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the overuse of “in fact”. It’s almost ok every page, even multiple times per page and really took me out of the reading experience.

Edub: I was a drunk for a long time, turned into an alcohol. I knew I had to stop and did. Then came upon this book later. This book just reinforced why I needed to stop and how much damage alcohol does to the body and mind when you abuse it like I did. I knew alcohol was bad but wow. It truly is a poison.

Doctor J: I've read a number of books on this topic, so the material isn't new to me. But it is very clearly written and presented logically, which is refreshing. I also like that he gives facts and knowledge rather than a lot of anecdotal evidence. The two reasons I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that 1) the author never gives his credentials, other than to mention he is a lawyer and former drinker. And 2), the information is not revelatory, not for me anyway. Still, if you haven't read any books on alcohol addiction and how to overcome it, this would be a good starting point.

Ike: This is a fantastic book for anyone working on kicking the habit. I started reading it on day one of my sobriety after about a 6 month bender. Before the bender I had a few sober streaks, but mostly drank every day. A dozen beers would be a light day for me. This book offers a new perspective, a way to step back and see alcohol for what it truly is. Some of the subject matter seems as if it was pulled directly from my own life. But i'm sure many alcoholics have similar experiences since we wrestle the same demon. Still sober, going strong, and feel even better equipped to stay that way after reading this book!!!

Marilyn: I devoured this book in one afternoon and have just started back at the beginning. The title of the book says it all as I have never had alcohol explained so well. Thank you for helping me understand the reasoning behind reaching for a drink, triggers, and also the conscious and subconscious mind's part in all of it. Knowledge is power and again thank you for an entire book I can relate to, understand and apply to my life.

Jason O. Dwyer: Clear, always to the point and so true. Finally, I have found in print the real story about alcohol. It coincides with my experience 100% and it is a huge help seeing my own experience described to a t in black and white. I thought it was just me but no, alcohol has the same effect on everyone, it’s just that no-one talks about it in the open or no-one is aware of it. Inspired and inspiring. I am actually looking forward to my first test to put into practice what is set down in the book. Highly recommended to anyone struggling with giving up alcohol or staying stopped.

La Reine des Fées du Pré: Thanks so much for this eyeopening book, everything felt is now known. Alcohol still remains widely accepted and it's really hard to abstain when socializing and some people wonder why you don't have a drink. I am about to quit, a sometimes drinker thinking enjoying it, but it's just easier to have interesting and deep discussions with nodrinkers and it took some time to admit that if I want to be an interesting person, quit and have nice talks, small or deep, with my friends and acquaintances. Abstinence = being smart and enjoying life fully, and consciously. It's about time to peripherize alcohol just was with cigarettes a few decades ago, alcohol is really everywhere !

Kindle Customer: I love this book. The author writes in a direct, confident and entertaining way. I'd read anything he writes.
As for the content, I'd already given up alcohol before reading this book and sort of got this for myself as a "congratulations" to make me feel good about my decision. However, I am now REALLY glad I did buy the book and read it (along with Alcohol Explained: 2) because I realise even though I had stopped, I was a high risk of going back to alcohol once the time dilation nostalgia effect kicked in.
The book is practical, realistic and does not bring emotion or drama into it. It is a dispassionate look at why alcohol is a net negative in your life and helps you see the truth of what alcohol really is.
For me, this direct, explain how it actually works method is very effective. Once you know what alcohol does to your body and why that leads to the way you feel about it, you just won't want to drink any more. Alcohol has been given too much credit for the good times in my life, and I would have had good times (and better times!) without it. No more. Thanks William I love the book.
