Juan urgell: El audio de estos audífonos es increible , lo malo son los materiales , solo me duró un año y se despedazó por completo . Una pena que audio tan bueno lo hayan dejado con tan poca calidad.

Jesse: I use the headphones both for listening on the go and DJing (still learning!) Sound is good, though definitely not cheap. Mainly bought because I am I big fan of Tiesto.

Robert P: Worth every penny of the price. Sound is awesome, the only down side is the plastic hinge has a piece that if you wear the headphones at an agle it might dig into your scalp.

Brandon: Great headphones. You can use them with a portable device but I recommend using them with a DAC /amp because the sound opens up a lot and they really shine. Clear vocals open soundstage and controlled bass ( not as open as my k702 but they do a good job) and on tracks with deep bass they will pound but not disturb the rest of the frequencies.

SyneRyderSyneRyder: I bought these after discovering that one of my favorite music producers from a Swedish pop-song hit factory uses these. Yes, this specific model, not the more expensive higher end ones, for some reason.

For my purposes, these are fantastic. The bass goes deeper than all my other headphones, deeper than my Bose QC25s or my more expensive AKG K270 Studio editions. But these aren't "flattering" headphones... and that's why I like them. If there's a problem with the way the music was recorded, you'll hear it. In my case, I'm discovering I'd recorded mixes that had too much bass, or loud sibilence (harsh ess sounds). Well produced music sounds wonderful and three-dimensional, but I have noticed even some #1 hits through these make me feel "wow, that song wasn't as well mixed as I thought".

I've had no problems with powering them, they sound great plugged directly into my iPhone or my laptop's headphone jack. But they do sound fuller when plugged into my Focusrite headphone amp, especially in the high-mids but also the bass. It's easy to drive them very loud with an amp, loud enough that the whole room will hear. Build quality is okay [EDIT: see update below] - they look...

Amazon Customer: After a decent amount of use time, I can finally reach a conclusion towards this pair of headphones. First of all, the comforbility of it is just so so. For people with slight bigger head like me, clamping force is a bit too strong. Maybe due to the high clamping force, some parts of your ears are actually touching by the headphones and getting pushed inward when wearing for a long time. Sound quality is great. Compared to mdr1a or beats studio, the amount of bass is not as much as those, but still dynamic and powerful with song that originally comes with heavy bass. If you are looking for something that has a slight bass boost but do not want the bass to come out of nowhere for song with few bass, k167 and k267 are worth considering. Mid and high are good. The sound stage is pretty decent. Speaking of build quality, I read a lot of posts saying the head support part is fragile. So I've been treating mine with extra care, and nothing yet happens to it. Once if mine broke, I will also update the photo and use time. But as a headphone around 70 bucks, it's definitely a worth trying pair.

Berkeley: IK167 are good headphones for casual listening to electronic/trans/pop music with somewhat neutral and detailed sound. Not so good for acoustic or new age music.

I like AKG brand and own 167, 702 and 550 models. So i I purchased K167 after reading good reviews on head-fi site. If you are on a $150 budget these cans offer AKG "detailed" sound that reminds me of AKG 550. Of course i can hear the difference between 167 and 550. Note that 550 sells for 2x more than 167 $180 vs $300.

I am not a recording engineer, so i cannot provide a very detailed comparison. You may have differing hearing or prefer different sound. The comparison was done on the same soundtracks using FiiO E7 quickly switching back and forth between 167 and 550. The volume and bass boost were the same.

In sum, as compared with 550 167 sound somewhat sterile like something is missing. I think that mids are missing and the sound stage is not as good.

AKG K167 sound as compared to AKG 550:
More lower bass
Lack of mid bass
Mids are recessed - probably U or V shaped frequency response as needed for DJ cans
Over emphasized low highs - probably there is a peak at 5-7kHz and after...

Wayne J. Ernst: I owned these headphones for one week, and ended up returning them. Initially, out of the box, I thought these were some of the best headphones that I had heard in the under-$500 category. The upper frequencies are "detailed" so if someone is looking for a warmer sound, this isn't the headphone for you. But, the bass is really good - and, by that, I do mean that there is detail in the bass and it is not just a "one note" wonder with the bass. But, what really started to get to with this product (the K167 headphones) is that at the end of a week, the foam in the ear pads didn't seem to be strong, or thick enough to keep a good level of padding thickness. This resulted in my ears literally touching the baffle of the headphones. So, I tried a recommended "tweak" to use some tissues to slightly raise the pads for comfort, however, the bass really suffered. This told me that the design of the headphones was really dependent upon the thinner pads and the ears had to be closer to the baffle for better bass.

My background: 30+ years of audio experience, speaker and subwoofer building, as well as a headphone enthusiast who loves music and good headphones.
