Anna & Adam: Serves its purpose. It comes with different tips. Easy to change out for the type of hike you're doing. The only thing I can see this being a problem is that if you do not have as strong of a grip. If so, the rod may not be as secure after you've adjusted (twisted) the length of the rods. And you may tumble over if you lean on it while hiking. Then I suggest you get the snapped adjustable ones.

LINDA SHERWOOD: These were used on a recent cruise around Iceland. They were helpful when support was needed walking up grades while on walking tours. I thought I would give them a try after a recent knee replacement. They were wonderful!

CHKCHK: I bought these poles to get more out of my morning walk--and they do make me stand up straighter and walk a bit faster. But one day this week they prevented me from taking a serious fall. I was walking along at a fairly fast pace and briefly looked away from the sidewalk in front of me at the exact moment my left foot snagged on a raised piece of sidewalk. I went flying forward, was not able to regain my balance and it looked like I was going to hit the sidewalk face first. Without thinking I planted my right and then my left pole out in front of me and as a result I was able to regain my balance without injury other than a slight muscle pull in the back of my left thigh. SO GLAD I WAS USING THE POLES THAT DAY! The photo I've posted is a suggestion on how to grip the poles without the strap going all the way around your hand. This way if you DO fall you can release the poles by simply opening your hand. If the strap is completely around your entire hand you might actually injure yourself by getting your hand trapped in the loop.

Sammie: Bought for Machu Picchu hike held up well. They unlocked a coupe of times. It can be mildly frustrating to twist-lock both sections of poles to desired length. Must store in checked bag NOT TSA carry-on approved! They were confiscated in IAH Houston airport but actually made it through 4 airport checkpoints unbeknownst to us that they weren’t TSA carry-on approved. We had the option to go back to luggage check-in but did not have time so they were taken away. Since they were a good price it wasn’t much of a loss! Would buy again though!
