I use a
Drinkwell Stainless Multi-Pet Fountain
with a
Reusable Filter for Drinkwell 360 + 3-month Supply of Carbon
. These carbon pellets work perfectly. Some people have complained that other carbon pellets are too soft. These are almost identical to what came with my filter originally. I selected the 100oz (6¼ lb) size because it's so economical. Carbon pellets last forever and never expire.
Since buying the reusable filter, I've decided it's more economical to not use filter cartridges at all. Just fill the cartridge holder with these pellets. A bit of screen material cut to fit in both ends, and you're all set!

Just Me:
I’m able to use this for a couple of purposes.
First off the pellets work great in an aquarium filter. Unlike other carbon pieces that have rough edges and hence produce a lot of dust, these give off a minimum of dust. I’m never happy with having to spend a lot of time rinsing carbon whenever I have to replace it, why soak up chemicals from the rinsing water and reduce the lifetime of the pellets. Reduced rinsing means more bad stuff they can remove from the tank water before needing to replace the carbon, this saves money in the long run. As a replacement for the other rough stuff these work great. I was concerned that the smooth exterior of the pellets wouldn’t allow them to absorb as much crud as the rough pieces but when testing the water and over months of using it I haven’t found any difference. The water is clear and the fish healthy.
The second use is rather unconventional. I have a freeze dryer that uses a vacuum pump. The pump can only run so long on the oil it uses before has to be replaced, or filtered. The oil isn't cheap, a 4 liter/1 gallon jug is $60 or more. Part of the filtering process is the need to remove acids and other...

A fair price for a good product. This worked ok for removing tannins in my pond, but I recently discovered Purigen, and will never go back. I will still use the AC as a backup, but if you are trying to clear a brown water issue, the amount of time and volume of AC required is very frustrating. And, you can't tell when the material is used up. Oh, the wonders of Purigen! (No, I don't work for them or own stock--but I have bought dozens of canisters of charcoal, and not seen the results that I got from one container of Purigen).
I also keep this around for emergency water filtration, but think the powdered variety works better.

Connie Harmon: After dealing with carbon flakes, these pellets are dream. They work wonders for my cats' water fountain. No more flakes in the water and I know I am giving my cats clean water to drink. Excellent product!!!!!!! worth the money invested

Just.Old: I have a pet water fountain with a charcoal filter. The replacement filters were super expensive. I found a company that made permanent filters so that all I would need to do is change the charcoal. I found this and decided to give it a try. It works perfectly and will last me for a very long time. The price was wonderful, so I couldn't be more pleased. This is a great item at a great price.

Diane C.: This product has very low dust and rinses out quickly. Its a good value for the money. I have multiple fish tanks and change my carbon every month. In addition, I rinse it every week.
