K & JK & J: Got some guppies to add to my tank. Noticed the pregnant guppies were being chased and nipped a lot by the other guppies. The item arrived very quickly. I am glad I read the reviews of the small size and got the Medium! And as reviewers mentioned, the lid just sits on top - doesn’t really stay on its own.
It was a little difficult to catch the pregnant guppies...and had to shoo the extra ones out. They don’t seem to like the box much - perhaps because it is TOO clear and they wanted out/more space. But it has solved the problem of them being chased all day. Let’s hope the tank will do it’s job and there will be a safe place for the fry to be born and to get big enough to survive in the main tank.
I wish the bottom had tiny gaps for the leftover food/poop to fall out and get filtered by the main tank.
UPDATE: every day the suction cups seem to get loose - but at least it has continued to float. The pregnant guppies seemed to dislike being stuck in there, so we let them back out. Now it is serving as a 2nd filter for the tank...see all the gross gunk collected in just a few days?? The snails seem to enjoy it. :P And the guppies seem to enjoy swimming...

amber baker: without this my guppi fry would have been ate. this keeps them safe, i dont have to change their water because water is able to go through the walls of it. its also really cool being able to look through the side and see all the lil babies lookin at you. its smaller than i thought it would be and only use it to hold babies i've caught in the rest of the tank. the piece that allows you to put the mom in there but separate from the babies is a pain in the butt to get into place let alone stay there when the mom is freaking out from being in such a tight space. id recommend just catching babies and putting them in, dont stress the mom out more. if your going to use it as a breeder box, id say get a bigger one.

TwinMama: Used this to grow out the fry that I rescued from my main tank after one of my platies gave birth. I didn’t notice until after the fact so I didn’t get to use the internal divider tray, but I checked and it fit fine.
I have a tall five gallon tank, about 11” across the front, and the smaller size fit well while leaving enough space around the sides and back to feed the adults and get into the tank, if needed.
I had 10 babies in the hatchery box for about
three weeks, when they were adopted out by a local school teacher. I think they could’ve easily gone another couple weeks. The many openings along the sides of the hatchery allow sufficient exchange of water with the main tank so it stayed pretty clean.
I’d suggest adding some hornwort or other fluffy plant for the fry to hide in so they don’t feel so stressed in the clear box.

P.D.: If you are into the fish hobby and love to breed the live bearers, this is a great buy. I bought 2 of these and they work great. It protects the momma while she's giving birth from the other fish and the babies go down to the bottom of the box protecting them as well.
