Linda Scott: 90% of the price of this is for packaging and shipping (yes, there really isn't any "free" shipping). A weak sound, as others have commented, and hard to blow without covering up part of the hole on the underside, which makes it even weaker. I wish I had gone with the actual dog whistle, which is what I was replacing. Very nicely and safely packaged, though. Don't even think about using this as a safety whistle.

Teri: So happy! I've been shouting and whistling to get my dog to come home from her adventures in the woods around my home. Im sure I was disturbing the peace. I doubted the whistle would get my dog to come home since comments seemed to indicate that the whistle was to stop barking. Much to my surprise, after blowing the whistle followed by a treat indoors a couple times, my dog came immediately when I blew the whistle outside. She was eager for her treat. Needless to say, I am very happy! Thank you!

pdm: It works. We trained our dog in the house to come when the whistle is blown. She shot out the door the other day (escaped) and was running down the street.... we grabbed the whistle , gave it one long blast , and she turned right around and ran back home for her favorite treat!!

Elizeon: 7-month old Lab responds to this like nothing else...we use it for more urgent recalls (like when she is running toward a stranger on the beach or slipped out the garage door) and ALWAYS reward the whistle call with real special dried chicken treats so it reinforces the whistle. She will even break from tangled play with other dogs when we whistle her. Otherwise she can be deaf to voice recalls when distracted.
We put it on one of those coiled elastic wrist lanyards and always have it on a walk...because you never know when you might need it. We have 4 of them...one at each door and one by each retractible leash. Accessible convenience a must.

Gadget Enthusiast: I've had this whistle for all of one days, and I am fairly disappointed. The build quality is fine. But the performance is abysmal.

Originally I had wanted a silent dog whistle to use to call the dog back to me through use of high value treat rewards (blow whistle, give a HVT automatically.. soon the dog will come because he assumes it's an HVT he'll receive. This is great for recalling your dog if they get distracted while off-leash or in loud areas).

The whistle is NOT silent. Actually, it is far from it. Blowing on it regularly emits a similar whistling noise with a rush of air. This is similar to what a person would make if they weren't very good at whistling. Almost like a dying toot of a train.

Blowing harder emits a piercing whooshing noise, akin to a toy train. It's not piercing like a regular whistle, but it's far from silent. I used it outside at night and it echoed down the street.

Your dog WILL hear it. It is not exactly loud like a regular whistle. But no, it is NOT silent like the higher grade whistles. You get what you pay for, be warned.
