Danielle: I stuffed this bag with clothes and drove across country while moving. It rained on the drive and no water got in! It held up great and was very sturdy. Definitely suggest getting this to increase storage on longer rides!

Jonathan Bare (OU): Moved my whole life in a tiny Chevy Cobalt about 500 miles from Wisconsin to Ohio in one trip. Stuffed this thing quite full, then added three extra ratchet straps looped through my windows just to be safe. No issue with tears or rips, but the front of the bag did wipe out a significant population of bugs on the highways in Illinois and Indiana. It doesn't feel fully waterproof, but I haven't tested that; water resistant seems likely, so I may spray it with a waterproofing treatment if I ever need it in bad weather again.

Sunny Girl: I temporarily moved from PA to Idaho for 3 months of work and used this to keep luggage and other items since my car interior was full. The material is sturdy and the zippers and straps feel secure, it was very easy to install alone (I’m a 5’4” female) and while driving I felt like my items were secure. I passed many other bags on the road that didn’t appear to be staying on peoples cars - there are several tie down points that you can pull tight and are long enough to then tuck the strap into your doorjambs so it doesn’t flap in the wind. (I suggest placing one twist in the strap to prevent noise - learned that from a YouTube trucker video about tying loads to your car)

The seams are lined with what appears to be waterproof taping but I had read other reviews of the waterproofing failing so I placed my luggage in contractor bags just to be sure. Then I packed items that I didn’t mind if they got wet up there.
I hit various rain storms as I crossed the country and would periodically check how dry it was up there. Not until a major storm overnight in Tennessee, did the waterproofing fail - but it poured for 8-10hrs and I stopped for the night...

Nadine: I recently moved from Quebec to BC and had to go across Canada. This seemed like a good option to have extra space to carry my belongings. Out of 12 days, it rained maybe twice. Both times, the inside was so wet. All my clothes smelled mouldy and everything that was in there got somehow wet (shoes, clothes, etc.) I had chosen this specifically because of the good reviews about the waterproof aspect but was disappointed.

Joe: It's not bad, decent value, and I'll keep using it. But I was under the impression due to the photos that it had stiffer walls. Also wind will blow the zipper covers up, exposing the zippers, some rain will get in, if it's raining.

R_L: We traveled a couple of days in some light rain for some of that time and it was fine - but we also put our items inside of a plastic garbage bag just in case, because we saw reviews saying it leaked. It didn't leak for us, but maybe in heavier rainy weather for a longer period of time it may leak.

Overall we were really happy with it. It was an affordable alternative to the higher end roof cargo containers. Easy to use.

Amazon Customer: Good quality

Canada on Jul 30, 2021

Frederick Archer Frederick Archer : I almost never write reviews and I'm rarely impressed with anything I buy off Amazon but I have to say, this carrier did impress me. I was moving from Austin to Los Angeles and bought this carrier to put on top of my Prius wagon. For the price, I wasn't expecting much and just hoped it would last for the trip.
It turned out to be very well made with heavy-duty materials and solid construction. It literally rained the night I loaded it up. Not a drop of water got into the carrier. I also loaded it down with light stands and a disassembled shelf. All sorts of edges that could potentially poke through. After 1400 miles of rain, wind, and desert heat, it was literally as good as new when I arrived in LA. I'll be able to use this for years to come.
Some notes-I did buy a mat to put under it, as it was resting directly on the car roof. Although the straps seemed to work just fine, I also threw a big ratchet strap over it, just for peace of mind. If you want it to be water-resistant, make sure that it's entirely zipped and make sure that the zipper cover is folded over. The instructions say to load it first and then put it on the roof. That's illogical and...

Lori6k: Very nice quality for the price! A lot of room inside too! Easy to put on my roof, easier with 2 people! The only downfall is having to lift my heavy bags on the top of the car but its my fault for packing too much!!! Is waterproof, I made sure i had the zipper closure towards the back of the roof too so driving rain wouldnt get in. Make sure you tuck in the straps after tightening it all up because they are very irritating to listen to flapping in the wind! I had to stop few times to get them all tucked in! This is a very nice car top carrier for the money and me as a woman can put it on and pack it up by myself(and a ladder!)
