Ken WaldieKen Waldie: This was my second purchase of an EC meter, and it's dramatically better than the first one. It is easy to use: I pull a small sample of a few ounces of water from my iDoo 12 pod hydroponic garden using a turkey baster, put it into a glass (see photo) and in seconds it give me an EC reading in microsiemens/cm. It has automatic temperature adjustment and needs only seconds to produce an accurate digital reading. I don't know what else you could expect for this price. This greatly simplifies nutrient control in my herb garden.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: The TDS & EC meter just arrived today. I'm a bit concerned that this didn't come in any sort of packaging that would convince me it's never been used. Just the storage case. One would think there would at least be a QC label over the cover to be sure the seal has not been broken. My main concern is the temp is off by 2+ degrees F (tested against two of my kitchen thermometers and an infrared thermometer) and the reliability of this meter seems to depend on ATC to measure TDS in water that isn't exactly 77 degrees F. I know 2 degrees isn't much but it also doesn't take an expensive thermometer to accurately measure water temp within 1 degree. I'm using this for hydroponics so I'll now need to purchase calibration solution to ensure my readings are accurate, which I intended to do eventually but not immediately. On the bright side, if this meter is accurate and the ppm of my tap water is 124, that's great news!

JoesabJoesab: I first ordered the TDS-EZ that seems to be so popular and was getting wildly different readings depending on the temperature. The TDS-EZ does not have automatic temperature control (ATC).

The Professional Digital TDS meter has ATC even though it does not actually say it on the Amazon page (it does say so in the instructions, see photos). While the ATC works it does not fully compensate for temperature across a wide range, but it's close enough for me monitoring my tap water and RO system output. You can't expect these $10-$20 inexpensive TDS meters to be as accurate as $100 lab grade models!

I compared the temperature reading to my lavatools thermowand and it's within 1 degree in the 50F - 70F range, about 2 degrees off over 80F. I didn't care about the temperature feature of the probe but no doubt the temperature reading is used for the TDS temperature compensation calculations so it does affect TDS accuracy. Still, close enough for home use.
