Maggie: This book is amazing! It's an in-depth study and a great insight into treating Lyme Disease in a holistic way. I highly recommend it. It's not an "easy" read by any means, there are a great deal of medical terms and descriptions to get your head around but it is of great practical value to those who suffer from the vast array of symptoms associated with Lyme Disease and indeed other auto immune diseases.

John Robin: I can't really judge the quality of that book because this is the first one I read about that topic.
The title sounds a bit "mystical" and I was fearing that the content would be the same, but it's serious and scientific (without being understandable).

I give only 4 stars because I read more than the half and then stopped - I want to finish it but this didn't really hook me although I have reason to believe that I have the Lyme disease. There's by the way a questionnaire in the book that will help you to do a self-diagnostic - it's a pity to say but most of the doctors won't be able to help you at all unless you have some strong acute symptoms, thus the need for you to read such books...

E.P. Clark: Once you go down the rabbit hole of Lyme disease and everything that comes with it, you realize that most of mainstream medicine is some kind of crazy looking glass world (why yes, I DID just reference both "Alice and Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" there in the same sentence, thank you for asking) where tripped-out caterpillars try to hook you on their hookahs, mad queens are always offering you jam tomorrow but never today, when they're not screaming "Off with her head!" that is, and walruses and carpenters are sobbing tears of fake sorrow so that they can gobble you down all the faster. Sometimes the only way to get anywhere is to run as fast as possible in the opposite direction as where you think you want to go.

However, there are a few sources of reasonably reliable information and even help. Dr. Horowitz has been treating Lyme patients for decades now, and has built up an arsenal of possibilities to consider and things to try, which he shares here.

"How Can I Get Better?" covers Lyme and its main co-infections, as well as other problems that often go with it, such as hormonal imbalance, mitochondrial disfunction, sleep disorders, and heavy metal...

ProtactInc: This book is well written by an expert on Lyme Disease who has created comprehensive treatment programs for his patients. Most interesting is Dr. Horowitz' simultaneous use of multiple antibiotics to address the two types (cystic and cell wall) and two locations (inside and outside of cells) of the Borrelia spirochete bacteria found in Lyme. He claims that none of his patients have developed antibiotic resistance because he chooses antibiotics that attack all forms in all locations. He also uses non-pharmaceutical medicines that have proven beneficial.

Many medical practitioners will fail to effectively treat Lyme disease because of lack of experience/knowledge. Anyone suspecting a tick-related disease would do well to bring this book with them to their doctor to help with proper testing for diagnosis and suggestions for treatment.

The reviewer purchased the book because it details a very useful protocol for helping minimize Jarisch-Herxheimer reactions that can occur when treating Lyme, Syphilis (both spirochetes) and other chronic diseases when many microbes die and create a toxic overload for the body.

An important point that Dr. Horowitz makes is that...

gracious geek girl: I consider this to be one of the definitive books on Lyme treatment (Healing Lyme by Stephen Buhner is another). In the introduction Dr. Horowitz says he has treated over twelve thousand patients in twenty-nine years, so he brings a lot of experience to the table. I found his book to be quite understandable, presenting numerous case histories and a wealth of information about the effects of the Lyme pathogens on the human body. Yes, parts of the book are fairly technical though as a chemical engineer by training I did not find anything I could not follow. I like that his treatment approach is not confined to antibiotics; he also uses herbal medicine and various supplements, most of which are readily available online (at least in the US). Treating Lyme is not just a matter of taking a bunch of pills, it is a lifestyle change. Dr. Horowitz discusses ways to lower inflammation, repair damage, and detoxify, as well as to improve health through food, getting adequate sleep, and exercise. Every Lyme patient and/or their caregiver should have this book on their bookshelf.

After years of escalating bizarre symptoms that were dismissed by my traditional doctors, I diagnosed myself...

David: Richard Horowitz certainly knows his stuff and this book goes into considerable detail about the causative agents and symptoms of Lyme disease. Anyone who suffers from this awful disease will readily relate to the variety of symptoms. The reason I deducted a star is that it did not give me a clear plan on how to get better, probably because there is no real solution. Medical guidelines on both sides of the Atlantic offer nothing so I was hoping for some sort of magic pathway to health. However, this is a complete guide and can be regarded as 'The Bible', I just wish it had a more realistic title.
