Ryan G: Decent book. Good advice but very short and quick read. Took me just over 1 hour. Need more content!

Paul Furlong: Very disappointing, this was a glorified pamphlet with only 64 pages many of which had only a handful of bullet points per page.

Tim Corcoran: Found this to be an alright read, it is very short read it all in a short sitting. All the info is very basic if you have any fire hall experience it's all things you should already know. Would only recommend to those with no previous FD time.

Schuyler H.:
Great book, that really covers all your unspoken knowns of the fire service that allows you to do what you've been training for. I am currently a rookie at a FD in central Texas, and did not pick it up and read it till I was a few months in n my first fire job, but I'm glad I did. It opened my eyes to how to go above and beyond! Must of it is pretty much common sense, but it helps you better understand it and be able to work in the system easier and more efficiently. For someone who has no previous fire experience and is embarking on their first fire job, GET IT. READ IT. EMBRACE IT. It makes life as a rookie 10 times smoother, because simply it helps you master "the game".
I've shared the book with my department and they've sent it up the chain to hopefully give out to rookies one day. In the mean time I've been picked to teach our new hires how to be a rookie. It works, take it from a 8 month Rookie.

Uleon:
I am an Engine Operator and Fire Instructor. I am in charge of helping new members at my station go from civilian to cadet, to probationary firefighters, and then fully release black hats.
I bought this book, read it, and loved it. It is an easy read with great information that mirrors what I believe and teach.
I will be buying more to give out to my new members. I feel like reading it from another point of view would be great for them.

jesse graham: I Enjoyed the book, very good insight on what to expect as a rookie. I feel it could have had more insight for dealing with different personalities in the station and how to get through your first week. Good nonetheless!
