Anonymous: Absolutely awful book. Written by some hippie dippy grandma who thinks that having read lots of homemaker magazines over the decades and a few science books gives her the right to parrot wishy-washy advice about all aspects of life ... with a small smattering of EO blends that are supposed to help. For example, she describes (poorly) how to use EO's to treat horses, hamsters, dogs, cats, etc... with no contraindications or safety precautions. She also teaches you how to make scented candles! Also, did you know that a good diet, exercise, dance, music, and art may benefit your autistic child? Shocking! I know!
I want to point out that I do use EO's, and respect them as powerful medicine when used properly. There has just not been enough scientific research in this field to keep unqualified people from writing their books and passing on useless, wasteful or even harmful advice.
The only (semi) responsible thing she does is preface the book with a warning against a shortlist of essential oils, that they should never be used under any circumstances. Of course, she doesn't include the Latin names of any of these herbs, nor does she anywhere in the book. Also, I'm pretty...

Jill Harris: I'm so happy I bought this book. There is SO MUCH INFORMATION in it. The author breaks down different kinds of essential oils (and also offers a list of oils that you should never, ever use), and each chapter (chapters for pregnancy, illness, beauty, pets, etc.) contains different essential oil recipes and methods of use to alleviate different problems or achieve some kind of end result (ex., helping with morning sickness, making acne go away, making your home smell a certain way, etc.). The book is extremely easy to navigate, and the author's writing style isn't at all dry or boring. She actually makes little jokes here and there and her language is so accessible. I'm so happy that I bought this. If you're just getting into essential oils or have been using them for years, you'll be able to take a lot away from this. It's a must-have for any home that uses or wants to use essential oils.

sunshine23: I have just started into essential oils and this was one of the first two books I have ordered and those are the only two books i have experience with so my knowledge is limited with that being said and comparing those two books I LOVE this book. I wasn't so sure at first, but then I started to read. the first chapter goes over basics and background and such and the second chapter goes into the actual oils. it covers basic oils and then lists several recipes for everyday use using those basic oils! why is that wonderful? because when you look at high grade oils they can be VERY expensive! especially when you first start out and you have NO oils and have to buy several bottles for a recipe. just glancing at the list all of the oils are inexpensive to moderate with maybe clove and chamomile being the two most expensive and you can pretty much treat everything with just that list. then it goes on to traveling and oils that might help with things from flying to insect bites. and recipes for all of those things. really it is an all inclusive book! later when it gets into beauty and things like that I noticed some recipes calling for more expensive and exotic oils like rose, orange...

MAK: I really enjoyed the read and there are so many great recipes for most every day needs, but it does show it's age in certain spots. You can tell the book is from 1991 because there are certain oils that are out of date as far as safety and uses. There are also a couple oils that are not even mentioned in the book that today are considered some of the most essential for every day use. All in all though, and especially for the beginner and new comer to essential oils, this is a fantastic book. I have no issues recommending it to anyone. Definitely should be apart of your essential oil "tools". Just don't limit yourself to this one book because new information has come to light in the essential oil world since it was published.

lydiapurple: I can only disagree with the reviews who said that this book is not at all complete because it only lists 10 basic oils and their application. Because frankly, this is just the beginning of the book, a very useful one. If you are like me just a regular person who cares for natural health this is the perfect starting point. The world of essential oils can seem so overwhelming and expensive that a newbie may not know where to start. Worwood cuts it down to the 10 most useful oils to treat most common illnesses and that really helped me to decide which oils to buy first! Then she continues to explain very clearly how to incorporate aromatheraphy in every area of your life. I especially enjoyed the uses for natural beauty product, air fresheners, cleaning. The book is truly an inspiration to try out new things for healthier and more natural lifestyle. In that sense it is truly complete. There is also a list of essential oils and their uses in Aromatherapy at the end of the book which goes far beyond the basic care kit of chapter one.

J'Laine: Buy the paperback rather than the Kindle version, because you will be flipping back and forth from the index, looking up recipes for various ailments, and aromatherapy; and that's much easier to do with an actual printed book. The healing power of herbs and essential oils is going to become even more important as overuse of antibiotics has created resistance to its use and superbugs are becoming more prevalent. The author is an expert in this field with impressive credentials you can trust. Whether you are a beginner in this field, or a practiced professional, you need this resource in your library. It's helping me choose the essential oils I need to buy and use to manage all those troublesome little health issues that you don't want to treat with chemicals or go running to the doctor, but is written with the wisdom to warn the reader to seek professional medical attention when needed. I only wish I had discovered this book and this knowledge many years ago because it has truly opened my eyes to this great untapped field of knowledge which is what medical professionals used for thousands of years.
The book is well written and organized in such a way to make it a very usable...

Mrs. M.A. Harrison: I only wanted a book with basic details of the oils. This is a good book but far too detailed for what I wanted.
