Amazon Customer: Make recipes for whole family! People and our dog! GREAT cookbook for homemade dog food.

William Cheatham: I went over many books about dog food on Amazon and this one is the most complete I have found. I love the transition recipes, the simple and more elaborated recipes, all the explainations about what a dog needs and should not eat. My only suggestion would be to develop more on the use of vitamins and other "Add-on" because I still have concerns about how these can affect my dog's health if I use them or not, especially since most of these might not be natural. I am still not sure, what would be the best format, quantity of vitamins and other add-ons (Based on the book recipes) to give to my dog. Overall I just started the transition phase with my dog, and she seems to enjoy it without difficulties.

Audrey Cedeño: It's a good book to have but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Doing your research before giving your dog what this book says is okay.

Some ingredients listed inside say Tuna, swordfish, and Garlic can be eaten and that's not true. Tuna and swordfish can be given in VERY SMALL moderations but you run the risk of your dog getting sick with mercury poisoning, salmon poisoning, and even salmonella poisoning.

Garlic and other members of the Allium family ( red onion, white onion, green onion) contain compounds, called disulfides and thiosulphates. This is toxic for cats and dogs if ingested.

Like I said read into each ingredient before believing what the book says is okay. Don't put your pets at risk. Semi-cook the meats as well to avoid any harmful food poisonings from red meats, poultry, pork, and fish.

Elizabeth Brown: Bought this for my friends birthday as she loves to spoil her dog. I flipped through it before wrapping it and was pleasantly surprised to see its more than recipes. It also talks about how much food to give dogs based on breed, age and weight, and also what human foods are safe for them and the benefits they give to the dog. She loved it!

Chris- NY: I was going crazy trying to find a kibble that my new puppy (Australian Labradoodle) liked and didnt give him liquid stool. I went through about 4 different brands including a prescription kibble from our vet none of which provided any improvement. I then considered a fresh delivery service but that was out of my budget and started looking into preparing the food myself. I was quickly overwhelmed with all of the stuff I was reading online and decided to give this book a try. I am glad I did! Aside from being easy to follow, it broke everything down in a way that just made sense. After reading, I felt that I had a solid understanding of how to plan and make healthy and nutritious meals for my pup.

With the help of this book I have finally gained the courage to give the home cooked meals a try and I am happy to say that I saw the results immediately. My puppy has been on home cooked meals for about a week as of today and within the first 2 days his stool was what it should be (and about a third of what it was when he was on kibble), he doesnt scratch like he used to and he loves meal time. In my first batch, I made about 2 weeks worth of food. In my next batch, I will be...

Kim - Manitoba, Canada: Nice variety of recipes.

Still trying to figure out why home baked dog cookies are only good for three days when my home baked human cookies can last much longer?

MABW: This cookbook is for someone who really wants to cook for their dog(s). It is set up in a sensible format and easy to follow. My dogs love all of the recipes I've tried so far. My issue with this cookbook is that I have four dogs with different needs/ages/weights that I need to feed. The author bases her recipes on an average of a 50 lb dog, as in one 'recipe' is set up for 4-50lb dogs, and then there is a single serving recipe below as well. So one recipe does not cover my 90 lb Labrador, my 72 lb Shepard mix, my 56 lb Pit bull mix and my 35 lb Border Collie. I have to adjust the amount I cook and serve for each dog. I'm cooking about a recipe and a half each meal. The author does list serving amounts per weight in the book, as well as how much protein, vegetables, etc to give. If I only had one dog to feed, this would be more do able for me. The author does also state what NOT to give your dog, how to add calcium using eggshells, supplements to give etc. There is a ton of helpful information here, my dogs are not complaining, but long term this is not practical for me.
