Twodogs: I've had this for a few years now. It has been trouble free.
It also does a wonderful job hard boiling eggs.

How it operates - Poke a hole in the eggs with the cup mounted needle (Surprising to me, the needle makes a clean hole and doesn't otherwise crack the shell.) and place the eggs on the egg tray with the holes up. Put the included cup measured amount of water, a surprisingly small amount, on the heating element. Put the egg tray and eggs on top of that and put the clear dome on top of the tray. Turn it on.
And that's it.
It turns itself off automatically when the eggs are done. And they are done perfectly.
Now, as soon as you can put the eggs into a very cold (ice) water bath until they cool and they will peel easily, very fresh eggs or not it doesn't matter.

Advantages - No more waiting for the water to boil, forgetting to put in the eggs, counting minutes, forgetting to take out the boiling eggs, getting over or under cooked eggs, forgetting to turn off the stove burner, etc... Seriously, no more hard boiled egg anxiety, minor as it may be, or frustration. Easy clean up, just wipe it off.

Disadvantages - None.

I see the new model has...

Jimbo: This is an interesting review to write. First off, I like this little appliance for poaching my eggs each morning. It is quite easy to use and it just takes a little experimentation to get the amount of water correct for the cooking time required. I have been far more successful in getting the eggs cooked as I like them with this device rather than trying to get them right with the cups in the microwave method. The only downside, and I think that it is a potentially serious one is that a few moment after shutting this off, it will turn itself back on for no apparent reason. Thus, you must remember to unplug it each time. I have the stainless steel one (because I didn’t want the loud alarm that other reviewers spoke about) Also, I did not notice that there is a big difference between the two stainless steel models. The model with the alarm is mostly all stainless steel, while the one without the alarm, most of the parts are plastic. Considering they are within pennies of one another in price, I don’t get it. Do I recommend it, it is hard to decide. The fact that it turns back on by itself is a worrisome safety factor!

JuJoDuDo: I have been using this appliance every day. It works so fast. I used to hard boil eggs which took over 15 minutes including the time to get the water to boil and then to cook eggs. Then it was a 50/50 chance whether or not the shells would come off without taking half the egg with them. With this appliance, I can hard boil up to 7 eggs and am amazed at how easily the shells peel off every time. I have 2 poached eggs for breakfast almost every day and have learned to adjust the amount of water to get the firmness of the eggs just right. I haven't made the omelet yet, but will do so. I think for omelets you have to cut up veggies very small. Cleaning this is simple as well. I just hand wash the cup. I use white vinegar on a paper towel for the heat plate once it's completely cooled. And the rest I just wipe with a paper towel. This is my new favorite kitchen appliance. It stays on my counter top. I had to put my air popcorn popper away. Too many carbs! I feel better too, eating more protein.

Lorie: I LOVE THIS THING!!! I almost always have a supply of hard boiled eggs in my fridge because they're basically a perfect food! It's a quick, on the go snack, or you can add it to salads, make a quick egg salad sandwich, whatever! I am a pretty good cook, but for some crazy reason, I COULD NOT make a hard boiled egg...I mean seriously...how freakin' hard could it be? I either wouldn't get them done enough, or I would walk away and forget they were on the stove...If you've ever wondered if eggs can explode, I'm here to tell you, they do, if you leave them on the stove long enough that the water evaporates. THEY WILL EXPLODE!!! Sadly I've done that twice! FAIL!!!! Then the other issue is the peeling part....UGH! By the time I would be finished peeling them, there was hardly any egg left. I tried all the tricks....salt in the water, baking soda in the water, fresh eggs, week old eggs, brown eggs, cage free eggs, organic, putting them in the oven in a muffin tin....I was literally a mad woman trying to master the hard cooked egg and finally, I saw this thing!!!! For the $13 or whatever it was, I thought I would try it! It is possibly my favorite kitchen gadget....EVER!!! So easy to use....
