Sean Peters: Some parts are plastic, and might wear out.

David T.: Great little emergency wick lighter. Good for a bugout bag.

Julie Losoya Harthi: Firstly, the lighters came with no instructions. After looking up similar lighters online, we came to the conclusion they fill with lighter fluid from the top where the match stick screws in, but none of the lighters would even form a spark. Out of all six lighters, none of them worked. So I can't say they would be of much use in an emergency. I would be disappointed if they weren't so cheap, but you get what you pay for.

HenryR: About 40 years ago, I had a similar item from a company called Campmoor. I loved the little "lighter". It was well built and had a great seal to keep the lighter fluid from leaking or evaporating. The ETOPSTECH lighters are good. But they are a little weight than my original Campmoor and just plain "feel" like a lesser quality. But they work. I liked the 5 pack because I keep one in the truck, camper, garage, pack and one as a spare. I bought another set and gave one to each of the kids. They are useful and handy.

Amazon Customer: When I filled this with fluid, it burned the wick very fast and doesn't seem tobe an easy way to pull more wick out. The whole thing caught fire several times and had to blow out. I would not recommend this product at all. If you buy, have lots of lighter fluid handy. Not recommended by me

Andre Dupuis: Works ok but fuel seems to evaporate while closed so it’s not reliable.

Avid Reader: I purchased a pack of five of these and was hopeful they would be a great replacement for waterproof matches in an emergency situation. No. Not even close.

I weighed (with a balance capable of 0.01 gram precision reading) all five metal matches without fuel and fully fueled. I let them sit undisturbed on my cool basement workbench for about six weeks and checked their weights at several intervals. Two of them lost a significant amount of fuel 65% and 39%) over a 48 day period. The other three lost smaller amounts of fuel (8%, 6% and 1%). In other words, you can't rely on these to retain their fuel for any long term storage.

I found lighting them very difficult. They spark, but rarely actually light the end of the metal match wick. Talk about an exercise in frustration. If these were regular matches, you'd think they were old and wet.

I would like to know if any manufacturer can guarantee that lighter fluid will not leak/evaporate from their product. If they can't guarantee that, they will eventually run out of fuel and become useless. Why do they sell a product that needs regular refilling, even when you don't use it? Who's going...
