lamplighter30: I have a fireproof safe, anything that has been stored in it becomes damp and mildew, the maker of the safe does mention adding a few of these packets to get rid of the dampness.

Janette Bowler: When my Husband got hearing aids he was advised to store them (after cleaning) in their container along with a silica gel pack.
These gel packs come in a ziplock type bag that needs to be kept sealed after opening. After use these packs can be 'revived' for reuse by baking in a low oven (see intructions on the main package) which means they can be used over and over again without having to buy new ones.

Zi-Books: I was curious how effective these would be, so I put two packets in a sealed container about the size of a small shoebox along with a hygrometer.
I checked back the next day and the humidity had dropped from 55% to 35%. Very pleased!
You get a lot of packets, so for the unused ones after initial opening I recommend pressing the air out and adding an extra layer of tape over the resealable opening. If the bag isn’t perfectly sealed the packets won’t remain effective down the road and you will have to refresh them in the oven.
