Elias Hernandez: Works great .. with small bugs

J. Martin: In a first for me, it was plainly obvious that this was an Amazon "re-pack". The unit didn't work because the UV bulb was unscrewed and had dead mosquitoes on the grids. I had to take it apart to fix the somehow unscrewed light, clean off the dead mosquitoes on this "not-so-new" zapper. It works acceptably and the light sensor works well activating it at dusk. But, like most zappers, it's not easy to clean and the tray is so tight that I thought it was glued on at first. Additionally, to open the bottom "dead bug tray", the circular tray turns -backwards- ... not exactly intuitive. Does it work any better or worse than any other zapper I've ever had? Nope ... but it does a good enough job. The biggest plus for me with this unit is the light sensor that keeps me from having to go out at night to activate it, or to have to get an outdoor smart switch.

Lone Biker of the Apacolypse: The light attracts mosquitoes quite well. Unfortunately, after a few minutes of frenzied and entertaining zapping, the zapper becomes overwhelmed by the insects on the grid. the little transformer cannot push enough current to keep up with the insects on the grid. The result: mosquitoes landing on the grid and not being killed. (Have you ever watched the botched execution scene in "The Greem Mile" it's kind of like that, not enough current to do the job properly). I have a hose running from my compressor to the scene of the mass mosquito mayhem, and if the grid is cleaned, it starts doing its appointed duties again. This is not good, the buggy buggers should be turned to carbon immediately all night long without the need for attention.

On the plus side, the light-sensing switch is a nice touch.

Charm: I could tell by lifting the box it was going to be bigger than the other one I bought. I bought another brand last year and was really happy with the results. However, I was skeptical with that one's lastability because the plastic was so thin and since I was cleaning it every day, I knew it was over worked. I stored it over winter and it didn't come back on. Soooo, I needed something bigger and made better. This is what I chose. The plastic is heavier, has more power, and is overall a better product for the price.

It's a mystery: I returned the first one because I thought it was defective - it says in the description that there is no noise, but all night I kept hearing zapping noises. It was so disruptive to my sleep I had to unplug it. In the morning, I opened the container and there were no bugs. I got the replacement and there were fewer zaps and crackles at first, and there were bugs in the container so I thought maybe I could live with the noise. Then day 3 it started making the zapping crackling noise continually and there is no way there were that many bugs getting zapped. I ended up having to unplug it.

So, it worked, it got some bugs but I don't think I, or my pets, can stand the noise it makes for indoor use. Most seem to use it outdoors but that is not an option for me. So outdoor use, it is probably pretty good and works, but for indoor use near where people can hear it, it is going to get annoying.
